Once again after two years of closures, Chertsey has reappeared in the guide book. After concerns that the state of the erosion on the north bank increased the fishery staff closed the venue to undertake vital repairs which have included screened outlets and new walkways across difficult areas. Stock surveys have been undertaken and a revised management strategy has started on this venue. This will ensure the lake stays as a firm favourite for many of the anglers who have fished it. Run as a Gold venue, Chertsey offers fishing for specimen carp in excess of 40lb, bream well into double figures, fantastic predator angling and some superb tench sport in the spring. The river Bourne runs down one side of this venue and has accounted for several double figure barbel over the last couple of years to 14lb with large chub present also.
With the fishing on the river included in the ticket, Chertsey can tick many boxes for the all round angler not just the ‘die hard’ carper.
Works are set to continue in the oncoming seasons to improve habitat and increase the potential of this popular water which will ensure that the fantastic sport found there will continue well into the coming years.
