LOCATION: Staines Road, Wraysbury, Berkshire. TW19 5AH
SIZE: Lake 3: acres.
The Road Lake now carries two 40s at the appropriate time of year, plus there are eleven mid to upper-30s and four low 30s. The rest of the stocking is roughly made up of five 20s and three doubles which are the original stocking from the Rimini syndicate, eight mid-20s from the stocking back in 2001, and nine fish from the stocking in 2005, of which one is now 21lb 5oz.
This fish is a great advert for the richness of the water as it went in at about 7lb at Christmas 2005. There are also a number of tench in the water; the biggest out to date is just over 10lb.
The Road Lake produced well all year round in 2008, but the anglers that did particularly well were regular visitors that kept a trickle of bait going in and dedicated themselves to their individual approaches.
With many snags in the margins of this water it is all too easy to drop in locked up and try to snare one of the lake's jewels. Fish do, however, come to carefully set traps over baited areas all over the lake and not just the snags.
By adopting a dedicated approach the angler who visits at regular intervals will undoubtedly score well on this water that can be tricky to suss out.
All in all, the Road Lake can be quite a challengeing lake, but with a little time and effort the rewards are definitely there.
