LOCATION: Sandhurst Road, Yateley, Hants. GU47 8JX
SIZE: Lake: 4 acres.
This coming season sees things change slightly over on this venue as for the last four years the venue has been a day ticket water, but due to demand CEMEX Angling have made the decision to re-open this water as a syndicate. This allows those among you who require more time with your fishing to get under the water’s skin and get to grips with its tricky inhabitants.
The Yateley North Lake was made historic by its anglers and by Bazil, its most famous carp, which has sadly now passed away. It has fished very well for the first three seasons after re-opening and great things are expected as a result of some careful stocking by the CEMEX Angling team.
The original stock that was left has been joined by 14 hand-picked Sutton strain carp of 20-24lb, including linear and fully-scaled specimens. In addition to these fish, 40 Sutton strain fish, ranging from mid to upper- doubles, plus 70 carp from the Blue Pool stock, have been added, with three commons and one mirror over 30lb up to 32lb 8oz. These are now packing on the weight in this rich water!
Having the choice of 26 swims to fish on this lake allows the angler to move around and try the very different areas of this venue which can vary from deep weedy margins to gravel humps and shelved shallows.
Although the fish are young and growing very well, they can be extremely frustrating and do not give themselves up very easily, but if you fish well you really could have a red-letter day. This water is destined to regain its prime status and offers a real chance to enjoy a part of carping history. Go on - you know you want to! Once again the fishery staff at CEMEX Angling have undertaken a great deal of work at the North Lake over the winter of 2008/09.
Large snag areas have been cleared and intrusive, leader snapping trees have been cut to allow more light into this venue.
