I was there a few weeks ago and it was definatly very weedy around "the ghost" and "mats corner" area of the lake (if you walk round to the right from the car park) there was also a fair bit out in front of "the boss" there were plenty of swims with no or very little weed present though, if you find yourself scratching your head too much the ballifs are very helpful. good luck mate.

The carp are always in evidence, but do move about. Be prepared to do the same if you are no longer on them

Fellas, if the lake is busy (8+ anglers) have a look down the far end (Last Post), basically turn left out the car park, then right to the end, the fish are often there in numbers when the lake gets busy, even more so when its sunny, don't forget the maggots now the temp has started to drop, a simple mag aligner with a golf ball size mesh bag, helicopter rig and a coated braid hooklink, inch stripped back, size 10 mugga and away you go, regular re casts every 2hrs max, should bag you a few, fish super slack lines, and be quiet as poss! Love the lake this time of year, all the summer noddies are back to work and midweek you can have the place to yourself if you are lucky, baliffs will always put you on the fish, good bunch down there.

The back bay is usually quite productive when the lake is busy, you do need to fish super slack lines, bobbins on the floor and the line hanging from the rod tips, if the fish know you are after them, they will do the off in no time! They wont stay in Matts Corner all night, they usually move out early evening, but the floater fishing can be great!

I fished it a couple of weeks ago with two friends and we had seven fish between the three of us, not particularly easy fishing considering the amount of fish in front of us.
I started in the ladders and had at least 20-30 fish stacked right in front of me, the stormy weather on Sunday night pushed them back down towards Matt's corner over night so we followed them but as more anglers arrived on Monday the best bet seemed to be the back bay - i stayed in the snags swim for two nights for just one fish but frustratingly had good fish rolling over the baits all night without much doing. Out of the seven fish six were commons, and just the one mirror - all between 14lb - 17lb. First time i've fished it , really enjoyed it and will certainly be back. |
