I am fishing Sandhurst next weekend. Can anyone provide me with tips on swims to fish, and what tacticsI should I use.
I believe it can be quite busy there, so if I can get a swim that I cast to the island, should I grab it??

Any help appreciated.

Morning baitrunner...

Island wise - still chocka out in front of the island (swims 26 & 27) and Bailiff's (Swims 23/24/25) stuffed full of weed, makes marking hard!!!

Casting to the edge of the island not bad though, if you can get in 25 casting to the edge of the island or on the edge of the channel, then there have been fish from there and likewise from 28 back on to to margins on the edge there. real close to the island from 25 is only 2ft deep - don't bother there as the birds will take you apart....

Tactics, well same as all summer really, not too much bait, small pva bags, even amongst the weed, coming to both bottom baits, pop-ups or snowman set ups at the moment.

Personally I wouldn't worry too much about the island, its probably one of the most fished swims on there, tends to be a standard thing for people who turn up, they see the island and feel they have to fish off it, next to it, in it, in front of it etc etc.... looking back through my bailiff notes, its probably been one of the more unproductive swims on there this summer.

When the weed clears in front if it it may pick up from there again, that peg came 3rd in the BACC's on Sandy, so you never know, i feel it will be more a cold weather swim though.. time will tell!!

Fish were showing all over this morning, many of the swims have spots at 30 - 40 yrds coming through now, if you have the patience to find them. When you getting down there? We should be fishing this weekend on Sandy, unless Ruth in YAC shows me the ticket book tonight and its as rammed as last weekend, in which case I'll be taking a short sabbatical on the Match (and trying to catch more then the Roach i had last weekend!)

PS, bait wise - NRG still pulling them in over there (don't listen to Lewis, he is a bitter and twisted individual and will try anything to put you off the stuff.. /forum/images/icons/wink.gif)

PM if you want, or my email is on my profile....

Nerys,

Hoping to get to the lake for about 6.30am Saturday, if I can managed to get up at 5.

Thanks for the info, I was going to head down with NRG anyway, and some maize.

Are there any pegs with a small amount of weed, as I am only fishing the day and really don't want to waste too long plumbing.

Thanks,

Baitrunner.

lew, don't you go bandying my double rabbit poo 10mmers alongside the nrg. killer bait. (not in the badger sense)

sweetheart.....

rabbit poo caught me one of the dungeness commons at 19lb, a nice fishers pond stocky at 21.4 and another 17.12 last week, so I 'ain't complaining really....... tend to find soaking it in NRG dip works aswell.......

hows that stuff of yours doing then? caught anymore yet /forum/images/icons/wink.gif if its soooooooooooo much better, you must let me have a sample to try..

In fact, theres an idea, I'll fish one rod on NRG and one on your 'stuff' and see which rod gets the more takes...

up for that Lewis? c'mon, put you money(bait) where your mouth is /forum/images/icons/shocked.gif.... if it is as good as you say it is......

Baitrunner, pm me ya number and I'll teext you friday night and let you know how its going if you want. Nothing wrong with day sessions, the fish were coming out during the day last week the 21 at 4pm, the 17.12 at about 3ish, so it could be good! Between us all, we know spots off many of the swims, not garunteeing to put a fish on the hook though! Probably best to see what gets left after friday night and then dependent on the weather, wind and pressure, take it from there when I speak to you.....

Saw it this morning as it called a merry 'ciao bella' across from the island.... /forum/images/icons/laugh.gif

then it promised to see off any anglers from the swims we wanted this weekend, and to savage a few more coots that were coming distressingly close to some of our spots..../forum/images/icons/wink.gif

Nerys,

Thanks for your help on Saturday morning. Sadly I blanked, but will definitely be back again soon.

I eventually decided on Peg 19, and despite all the baliffs telling me it normally produced.. it didn't. However, I don't think anyone had any carp out after 8.30 in the morning, so I didn't feel too bad. And the mink kept me company for long periods...

I would also like to say how refreshing it was to go to a lake where all the baliffs actually want you to catch, and were prepared to have a chat and give you information about other swims worth trying. Unfortunately this is not the case at a lot of other waters I have fished.

Morning baitrunner, I did wonder how you had got on down there.... never mind, next time, next time!!! when I first went on there last november I did 200 hours before my first fish.... seems a long long time ago now.... glad to hear everyone kept the side up too, like you said, its not always the case but we are a pretty happy bunch in the main!

It did fish strange this weekend, a couple of swims really produced, notably Dan and Tanya in 2 and 4, The Secret (1) did a 7.8 tench, and there were a few good bream out too, about 1 in 10 bream is a double at the moment I would guesstimate.. Dave had a couple, an 11 and a 17, the 11 at around 12 noon and the 17 at night, I had a 14 common at 2pm ish on sunday. Dan had 5 (2x20) altogther, Tanya 2 (1x20) I think, Dave 2, me 1, I think there was a 15 out somewhere up near where you were too.... one of the lads dropped in 19 saturday night and had a couple of bream I think..

The lads on the island didn't fare well either though, we were taking bets on their strategy, unfortunately we won.... putting out 3 hours worth of bait didn't work... I dread to think how much they put in, a serious investement, they'll eat well this week though those carp!! In fact someone moved on to 27 last night and had a 20 overnight, I bunked off the end of work and managed to squeeze a 16.12 in before midnight last night too... so I'm happy!!!

Got the latest film in for developing too, another 20 for me on that one, and one of the dungeness commons I caught the other week... also some pics of Shoulders from the other week when Gary Lewis had her/him...

Glad the mink kept you company though! We've decided he is of latin blood, with the dark eyes and slicked back hair(fur), he runs a nice sideline in flamenco dancing too for when the fishing is slow.......

let us know when you're back anyway mate!!!

see you soon,

would the thirty not be better off in tut North, from a perfectly selfish point of view ??

flynn
16-10-2002, 13:09
i would tend to agree but if its being drained and they'd have to hook it out again not much point.

OneToner
16-10-2002, 13:20
The idea is rumoured to install all worthy north lake carp into the bay which is seperated from the main body of the lake by the bar from the end of the point to the bay entrance (which you probably already know), by dropping the water level by approx 1 foot, the main body could then be drained and carp relocated, bream and tench (and anymore cats) removed. The lake then refilled. Got to be a better idea than removing them to holding tanks surely

flynn
16-10-2002, 13:43

But only at the expense of another water! Sandy is a developing DT water that has excelllent potential and the addition of a good 30 will help it achieve good commercial status.

Role on the stocking!! Any news as to when this will be Ian(PM)?

Paul

OneToner
21-10-2002, 11:22
I thought the stocking has already been carried out this week ?
Am I right in thinking you have taken over from Brian as head honcho ???
I would consider the addition of a thirty to sandhurst is at the expense of the North Lake (unless some good fish arrive).

The North lake is a huge piece of angling history which requires less small fish and more large fish. To restore the lake to its elevated status requires a carefull balance of established fish, stocking of new established fish, and the introduction of for example a few sutton stockies.

Sandy is a developing DT water which is already highly stocked, holds 30 lb carp already, I can't see how the introduction of another 30 will improve its commercial status.
The south lake is rammed nearly every week but is lacking in the 30+ department.

What people want from a DT water is runs, I doubt you'll get many week in week out regulars fishing the venue working their way through the fish to the 30's.

I am not really bothered that Sandy has had the addition of a new 30, I just feel it would have made more sense if it went in the North, just like Crinkle when it came out the copse

I agree, no favours expected from RMC and a fiver per head extra keeps it sensible. With 450 carp in there and enough bream to keep you happy Smarts I think a few 'extras' could be fun. hard to limit it as it's a DT but 10 -15 should be OK.

Paul

funky
22-10-2002, 12:02
fair enough - happily pay extra cash to stoney's plus the normal ticket price - was going to do a weekend down there anyway to give myself a break from the match at some point over the winter.....and i agree with you smarts the less people on there the better it tends to fish....though when we had the last full social on there in august even with 18 of us on there everyone caught and that's more than can be said for some weekends i was down there over the summer.....apologies for misunderstanding your original social reference...

anyway if it is decided to do this, as for limiting the numbers - ian did shut sandy the weekend we had the social in august once he knew he was guaranteed a certain number of people there all stumping up the cash anyway....so it may be worth asking the question if there are a few up for it...he can after all only say no...!

out of interest how busy was it the weekend just gone as never quite made fishing this week....
