Oh dear. Guess what, the river's half tidal there and the colour comes and goes with the tide, as does the flow.

Perhaps this whole section of the boards should be closed down if QC is impossible?

nogbert jalfrezi

Half tidal? When the gates at richmond lock are raised does the river not rise according to how much water is forced in from it uppermost point.

Point taken though about the colour and flow. My observations next time will not be taken from Richmond Bridge. Cheers.

Anywhere upstream of the half lock is semi tidal, you'll still get huge spring tides though. Main aim if the half lock is to keep water in the stretch above, not to stop it getting in there.

On occasions Hampton Court is tidal, been there and seen it, lol..

the tide does effect the non tidal stretches of the thames like Kingston etc, but large movements in the water usually moving upstream are due to the waterboard drawing water into their reseviors at Kempton.

There is a occasional user to this forum who sank his car up to the roof line, he parked it the Twickenham side of Richmond bridge and went to the pub. When he got into work the next day his workmates were dressed as frogmen, oh how I have laughed at this stupidity :D

Nogbert J.

 Do you mean the half lock if so no, that is not how it works. The tide runs in and the gates are lowered to hold it back. Allowing a navigable river above the half lock, when the tide runs out the depth above is kept at 1.72m or more. Without this bridge the tide would run out and the river would become a very small stream within large mud flats as far up as the next lock and weir, which is Teddington. Before the locks and weirs where put in the river was tidal up as far as Staines.

Hi All,

New to the forum as a poster but have been reading for ages. Anyhow, I have a question that I hope somebody would be kind enough to help me with.

Does anybody know if the area around Taggs island is free fishing? This would be the opposite side to the Palace.

I have been fishing opposite the palace behind the station for years now but never ventured above the lock/weir because I was unsure if it was free etc.

I have also been reading the ongoing argument about whether details of capture locations should be disclosed and have some thoughts on the subject.

The type of people that none of us want to fish near will always be there, they will mostly disappear once it gets cold, and for the most part they do not have the knowledge to consistently catch fish even if they are shown where the fish are. Besides all of that, catching good fish from the Thames is not easy. I have caught a 7 1/2 pound Chub from Hampton Court on a Tutti Frutti boilie not 10 feet from the bank, on the same night I caught 3 other Chub to 5 pound, a small Barbel and about 8 Bream, I have not caught a single Chub or Barbel since! That was 5 years ago!

If you intend to fish a swim and have prebaited etc, then of course you should not disclose exactly where it is, but sharing a bit of info with people is not going to bring an end to fishing as we know it. We all remember being novice fishermen and asking for a bit of help from the local anglers and how good it was when they threw you the odd bit of knowledge.

On that note, does anybody have any (very general info) on how the stretch around Taggs island has been fishing this season? I know that Hampton Court was very quiet at the beginning of the season.

Many thanks

nogbert jalfrezi

Hello Spurs Dal,

The stretch opposite H.C.Palace is as far as i am aware free fishing. The stretches around taggs Island as is the majority of the Thames all free. Some stretches further upstream have private stretches.
Try a google search with a stringer with appropriate wordage such as "river thames free fishing areas" -you know the lingo to use. Better still get local knowledge from tackle shops or from anglers in the vacinity.
Your comments about placement of "secret spots to fish" and not letting too much info out was well written and thought out and i mirror your views 110%
We all at some stage cross over and venture into swims sometimes unknowlingly and by chance/fluke that have been prebaited or knowlingly know big fish lurk there. Then find when going to fish there somebody has camped out on your spot. Unlucky is the word. Find another swim + try your Favoured swim another day after its been groundbaited for you free of charge!
Before i forget Mr Dal, this forum is a portal for the "tidal Stretch" -generally areas below Teddington. Cheers Nogbert Jalfrezi:thumbs:

Absolutely correct re Hampton Court being affected by the tidal influence. I believe this occurs when a spring tide exceeds the weir height at Teddington and starts to push the natural flow back.

Witnessed some guys making a hasty retreat from an area upsteam of Teddington one night....

I believe the lawns at Taggs Island (near the Taggs Island bridge) belong to the local council (?). If so they are 'privately' owned unlike the towpath opposite.

Neil_D
23-07-2008, 22:34
The quick answer is that the whole Thames from Staines to the North Sea is free fishing as long as you can get access to the river on public land.

with reference to what spurs dal is saying : (Does anybody know if the area around Taggs island is free fishing? This would be the opposite side to the Palace )

If i am not mistaken there is an area on the molesey bank , that faces taggs island , that has been given over to the birdlife ,(and fishing is not permitted there ) from memory a few hundred yards , , i think this is the area spurs dal is refering to ,

if anyone knows different please can they let me know .

The bit you can't fish is either side of the slipway in the carpark for as you said a couple of hundred meters but I dont think it stretches as far as Taggs islandits a bit busy along there its better down stream towards the rowing club.imo

Cheers Mr Joker:thumbs: , looks we are like that down at my end of town. all we've had is Mr Bream. Those blighters are wafting 2 x 20mm, 3 x 18mm baits! Was going to try particles but gave that one up as a bad idea.

Met this dude earlier who wa doing a short evening session. He hauled in bream after just 15 mins. He also had eels on earlier sessions in a different stretch. Saw cracking pic of specimen bream. Might even hear from him.

My mate who's working in an exclsive and private marina in town reported that "giant carp" are taking sandwiches thrown in. wonder what's in them?

Zander and trout reported via the jungle drums.

rigs used to catch carp: 12lb daiwa Senson brown mainline. Size 4 fox series 2 xs barbed hooks. stripteaze hooklength - 11inches long to chod rig and 4ft length leadcore. with flying backleads x 2.
Hook was "d-rigged" but didn't strip back any of the coating, only broke stripteaze about 2-3" from hook to form a hinged rig. Added couple of blobs of tungsten putty.
rub stripteaze to straighten out.
I read about the "d" rigged bit from geezer who works for Gardner tackle. Adapted his rig to suit baits etc.
You can cast this rig at maximum force and are guranteed no tangles. Great confidence boost when chucking out at night.
hope you find this useful.

Tight lines,
Nogbert Jalfrezi:thumbs:

Great rig. used it today 4 chub to 6lb and 2 bream.Did massive casts -100-110 yards with no foam = small baits. No tangles. Ta very much Nogbert

dr who
25-07-2008, 22:21
Strange thing though. did massive casts of about 100-110yds.When alarms sounded, the bobins dropped to the ground and line slackened off. 2 bites like this were both bream.
3 oz leads used, (leads felt like they were plugged in shallow silt on initial casts) can these fish lift them this much - didnt know they had so much strength?

whitetoby
25-07-2008, 22:31
did u catch the four chub on the tidal , and what were their bites like ?

dr who
25-07-2008, 22:51
yes, they were from the tidal, bit of a brutal area. lots of nettles, mud and tidal debris. had to fight way through bushes to reach river.
bites were agressive. on the alarms they sounded like getting a mini screamer. heart stopping. thought it was bigger fish.
Had bream on prev sessions. as the small ones (to 6lb) are so weak (when caught on carp gear) they pull -your alarm sounds, then stops. Off it goes again- then stops etc. You wind it in and there they are. Ultra annoyed when rod pulled in. Prob with river is debris both on and under water.
All part of the enjoyment of the thames - super random like the lottery

oh and not forgetting those canoes. damm nuisance even at 11.00pm
They must be crazy - are they insured or mad. Why risk your life. One poor chap lost their life at Isleworth two seasons ago.-didnt have a lifejacket on??? Life would have been saved as would have got caught between houseboats -if memory serves me correctly.
have had them almost in the margins on the tidal -seeing us and still comming in close. Why do this? But theyre no match for 15lb line.

Hi All,

Been fishing the non-tidal this season at H/C and Laleham and had next to no luck whatsoever, I mean dreadful. Reading through this forum has got me thinking maybe I will give the tidal a go, I live very close to it. Now, the only time I have fished the it is for eels and that was years ago, does anybody have some general advice, a sort of "fishing the tidal thames for dummies"?

I live very centrally in London and so it would be nice if there was anywhere decent nearby. I don't want specific swims obviously but some general info on areas, tactics, tides etc.

I am beginning to go mad, even my kids keep telling me that I am no good at fishing!

Didn't go fishing today but this evening the wife and I parked up today near Richmond and saw two chappies fishing.
We watched them for a few mins, one of them got a bite and pulled in a very nice pearch.(about 1lb)
He unhooked it.
My missus said to me "what is he doing with that fish?"
I replied - "he's unhooking it, then will return it"
A few mins later the guy who caught the fish recast.
We got out of the car and casualy walked past them. The perch was put in their plastic carrier bag with several of its close cousins.. When we heard them talking it was in strong european accents. no landing nets etc but the necessary essential equipment -cans of beer..
We've had our licences checked by the E.A.at Hampton court last year. (November) at 9.30pm by the E.A. and 3 police officers. They (E.A.)crossed checked rod licences + (police) our vehicles. wish they had been there today for my own peace of mind.
Can anybody please advise on minimum sizes of fish that can be removed from the river (if allowed?)
Thanks.

The water temps are still 68-70f, can't imagine what you're doing wrong with the thermometer.

It really isn't that I think I own the river. You seem to think you do, otherwise what right have you to potentially spoil others fishing by advertising areas where you aren't the only angler, and certainly haven't spent as much time as some angler quietly working things out for themselves?

mooreha
29-07-2008, 00:09
I think you're over-reacting Tim. Fair enough, not giving the actual spots on the tidal would be more acceptable if only to appease yourself and one or 2 others. It's a big river, and hardly likely to be crowded with anglers, even with our easter european fish-for-the-pot regulars. These people are the ones you need to worry about, because now and again they get lucky with their longlines etc and catch a few big carp that end up on their table. They're hardly likely to be reading this forum for clues with their poor English either. They managed to empty Gunnersbury unchallenged. They're the ones you need to be watching out for on the Thames. At least our own anglers treat the fish with respect and return them to the Thames unharmed.

I really don't see how being general about an area can do any harm:confused:

The Thames is a big river and there is plenty of it for everybody, it will never end up like one of those bagging puddles full of noddies with "I am now a proper carp angler" kits.

We should be encouraging people to fish it, to bring their kids and friends and pass our great sport on to the next generation.

If you are really that secretive and protective about your fishing, why are you on a FORUM, reading about OTHER people's catches?

totally agree 100% with you mate , if we can help out our ENGLISH anglers then im all for it !!

Why only English anglers? What do you mean by English?

Seems a very silly statement to me:confused:

One of the great things about fishing, especially for teenagers etc, is that while they are fishing they are not doing anything else. So in your anglo-centric world, we would have no chance of getting young people off of the streets and fishing because some of them aren't English.

Little Englander syndrome me thinks:dissapoint:

Or because people have more sense.

Do you imagine there's an eastern european website where they post how well they've been catching recently, and where? I somehow doubt it. They have more sense than to invite others to make their fishing harder.

Each to their own matey!

But you can't force others to agree with you, if somebody catches 10 40's in session and wants to broadcast it to the world, that is his choice.

But it's a choice based on ignorance and total lack of experience. Wake up and smell the coffee.

So is living in a rainforest and subsisting on slash and burn agriculture rather than adopting a modern lifestyle, but what are we going to do, force everybody to be exactly the same?

I get your point fully, I had an unbelievable little swim on the thames last season where I was able to catch big carp less than 3 feet from the bank on a float for weeks, I talked about i but never disclosed where it was. But that was a choice that I made. If you chose to disclose your swim that would be your choice, a silly one perhaps, but your choice nevertheless.

But that is not what this is about, from what I gather people are becoming upset by people even mentioning what stretch fish were caught on, that seems a little over-zelous.

You cannot force people to agree with you.

adrian hoare
29-07-2008, 18:37
blimey , sounds like you found yourself a real peach of a swim !!! have you fished your carp spot this season ? how big did you have them m8 ?
i found a great swim for carp on a tidal strecth and had three 20s last week in four sessions and three upper doubles ... every one of them during the day too !!! went again the weekend and caught nothing , not a touch , just shows that giving away stretch details is one thing but catching them is a different story altogether ...... some people on here think its easy when they find a area holding carp , but still need to put in the hours dont they mate ... do you agree ?

Olly1
29-07-2008, 18:50
I think Mr Kelly has lost the plot - after all it is fishing - free fishing - and they are entitled to take and eat our fish - such is the Law.

The Thames including the Tidal is a long stretch some of it almost only fishable by boat.

Tim_Kelly
29-07-2008, 18:52
Doesn't really matter if people catch or not. If they're in the swim you want to fish, you can't.

If someone owns their own lake and wants to tell everyone to come along to it and fish it, that's one thing. Telling anyone who'll listen about an easily accessable bit of water is out of order. It's not theirs to spoil.

Stratfink
29-07-2008, 19:16
I've got to say that giving away specific locations is very naive and if you must do so, then I would suggest restricting it to pm's. If it was an area I was fishing that I'd spent a lot of my own time finding out about, then I'd be pretty annoyed as well.

Ok tim, i understand the basis of your thread, but if that is the case and i fully understand your reasoning what If I confirm to all members to use spicy shrimp + prawn boilies or halibut pellets, go to the thames at Staines above staines bridge on the surrey side.where tey can catch barbel up to 14lb and carp etc

The point of my previous post is that a lot of detailed info has been published in the past 24 months about swims on the thames both tidal and non-tidal.All posts give away info about swims, depths, baits, rigs and so on in the anglers mail......twickenham,Isleworth,Richmond,weybridge, shepperton, staines etc etc.

An article on the tidal thames by the Thames tidal carp record holder - check the pixs - couldnt give away much more info from some of the pics. I saw them and thought so what? In the past 8 months or so since its publiation have saw only a handful of bods fishing there. 90% non carpers. oh before i forget the publication is ......?

Wow what a discussion!! Im a bit of a secret squiirel, but will always give people advice and help when asked and appreciate advice and help when i ask. I wont give precise details on a forum simple as that. Those that do fine, eventually MOST that chase this advice an specifics will get broken by the thames and head off somwhere easier FACT. Those that stick it out and learn about the river and persevere through the blanks deserve to be there surely. We cant keep the river to ourselves, and i do feel very terratorial about MY PATCH;) But it aint my patch and i have to except that- However i have thrown 4 guys off in the last few months:D They were fishin close season for spawning.

Try using your ear in the river to get water temp. you might hear the gossip mongers heckling.

Actual temperture today was at noon 24.0c

I might go down to Marble hill park area at some point -carp to 40lb and grass carp -dont slate me -but read all about it in previous a.t. posts.-FACT.VIA newspapers.

My internet research found detailed info about all thames areas from teddington to oxford, so nothing is secret. the forum members put in hours on the bank and thats whats needed to catch fish, to gather information and submit reports. (nothing specific) Not spew out rubbish and slag off members on this forum giving out useful info.-water temps etc.

Will also use the tip from the angling times writer in this weeks mag: spicy shrimp + prawn boilies , probably 26mm for big carp at staines. good tip -The reporters good, really too good. Keep up the reports. we might end up will all thames swims being numbered, mapped and sold at your local newsagent for £3.99p soon.

Think you'll find that low tide was around 20:27 at London bridge on 1/08/08 and high tide at 02:04 on 2/08/08. The tide was still flying out at 6pm on Thursday 31/07/08 coz I was having a few cold beers there at the time. Tidal predictions are never accurate. Only a guide. No accounting for run-off time from rainfall either.

For Chiswick Mall/Strand on the Green you need to add the following to London bridge times:

High tide + 40 min. + 50 min.

Low tide + 2 hr. 5 min. + 2 hr. 40 min.

I saw two geniuses out the other day. Chugged up river in a boat groaning under the weight of their carp tackle. Stopped the boat at one spot, then thought better of it and went off to another spot where they got on the bank and set up. Genius 1 set his rods up in super stealth mode with only the rod tips sticking out from between the branches of a very low overhanging tree.

After about 3 hours they packed up again and went back off downstream in their boat. Maybe genius 1 realised there was no way he could have done anything if he'd had a take on his stealth rods as the tree totally precluded any rod movement.

I expect one (1) of them was Nogbert....

I have looked at other forums, Severn,Thames and noticed that other anglers were also not catching. Went out after work and checked temperatures both air + water tonight at 8.30pm
Water at high tide - 22.9 Air temp 23.4

Does this affect the way river fish feed + bite?

Is there a temp. which is optimum for feeding a) in summer and B) in winter. Does the river temp also differ on tidal and non tidal areas. ie displacement of surface water due to the tidal flow of the river.

On this forum - a lot of people have dismissed the water temperatures posted on the tidal threads, so that when its warm (water temp) that is the only viable principal that matters.

In short: does a few degrees either + or - around 22. (73f) make a difference? or will different fish feed at different temperatres or is there another reason??
your comments much appreciated.

This sewage problem might be a small part of the problem on tidal reaches.

Attatched is a BBC News report about sewage being pumped into the thames.
Isleworth and its catchment areas on the river suffers badly due to the storm tanks at Mogden Lane being removed and the land sold off. A new private housing estate was built on the site where the storm tanks stood.
When there is a major downpour, the surplus water from the sewage treatment plant was held in the giant rain collection stormtanks. Now, the residual water is diverted via Mogden straight into the river.

At Twickenham embankment where the old swimming pool used to be is an outlet which discharges what looks like toilet paper (used!) and other nasties.

Previous files relating to these tanks via Thames waters official sites HAVE BEEN REMOVED from the net and new and even cached pages no longer exsist. Thames water P.R. gurus have been burning the midnight oil.

Thames Water are in the throws of consultation for a major "Super sewer" to be built near Hammersmith?

All the local fishermen downstream to Isleworth have reported/complained of bad fishing and FISH DEATHS after major flash floods. Since the last major incident (cant remember exact date but think it was 2 seasons ago???) fishing in adjacent areas have not been the same.

The following BBC t.v. report adds fuel to the fire........

Do we have any T.W. employees/supergrasses who can confirm/update the above please to the forum?

dont know why people are struggling, not for silverfish as there are plenty to be had in the faster water, barbel seem very few and far between, whereas carp are aplenty, in the same old spots, small perch are also in the usual areas
basically chaps and chappesses, fish mid river, where flow is greatest and water coolest, hence greater oxygen levels, cage feeders of all sizes with all size hook baits should produce with plenty of recasting, mud suckers are mostly in the slacker areas although the tide brings them underfoot
go get them chaps

2 Bream 5.5lb and 4lb

cloudy, drizzle on and off. River flowing at steady pace with good colour pre high tide.
left when pub goers for afternoon session started to flock by.
Ketchup bags with 20 ml bottom baits. Biaits heavily chewed down by mittens or the crays.
Had to re cast every 20 mins. 20ml bait chewed down to about 12-13ml in 20 mins.Used pop ups + zig rig (4foot) in 9 foot depth on 3rd rod- scored zero on that one.

Hi Mr mattharvey1,

I was working in te Brentford area this morning and sussed out the temps etc.The tide was on its way out at around 10.44 this morning.

The tables which i use are from the UK Hydrographic Office and use their predicted e.t.a.'s of tides. The word to note here is predicted as prev mentioned in forums, this applies to these tables.
What site did you use for the tides?

Nogbert + co - I use this site for tide times and like you say it's a predicted level and times but there are similarities across all the published tables - it's only the river itself which knows the real truth of course.

http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EASYTIDE/EasyTide/SelectPort.aspx

The reason I brought this up yesterday is I noticed your prediction for high was exactly one hour less than what I had.

There is a drop down box once you have chosen your port e.g Kew, Richmond etc which allows you to add one hour for daylight saving.

High for Richmond lock today is: 11:46am; so for around three hours or so after the high, the half-lock gates will descend and the level won't change and it will be slacker water until the next approaching high which is at 00:41 - however the tide will start coming in around about 3 hrs before that at about 9.41pm this evening..

However with all the rain we had last night there should be a bit of a flow coming down even when the half-lock gates are down I should imagine.

Hope this all makes sense..

I'll be out tomorrow night.

Most surprising, I wonder if sea fish do the same to get at the food source they previously couldn't get at? Do they move out of the margins when the tide is on it's way out?

Right headbanger!!:brick: I swear some bleeder sent them there to p@ss us of today!! Still, no pain as they say!!;) Back-leads were essential as ever, but less effective today with loads of surface and sub-surface rubbish flying through bank to bank. Reeled in several clumps of zebra mussels clamped onto hook and hooklength during the day. They appeared to like the bait if nothing else did.

No Thames expert Robin, so apart from the obvious, ie heavier leads, flying backleads and 1oz+ backleads or fishing the margins, the only other option is finding somewhere out of the main flow/back-waters(marina's, River Mole etc), persevering with conditions or sitting at home. Given the option - persevering seems like the best option. Even worst during day with the boat traffic, so you've had it relatively easy last night!! Good luck mate!!

singy
13-08-2008, 16:21
you'll need to look for islands, cut backs, boat yards etc. Any obstruction will cause some sort of change in water flow. Take a nice island for example the slack should be behind the island from the direction of flow (obviously this changes with the ebb or the flood tide)

Problem with many islands is that to fish the slack areas you need to cast across the main flow, which makes it pretty impossible when bank fishing.

Best bet is to walk the river and look for areas where the flotsom is gathering. And hope the river is accessible at these points

Also in the same area, Bream, Mid channel BIG BARBEL, A channel was cut mid stream on the twickers side of eel pie island in the mid 70's (if memory serves me correctly)
This was done to help large ships to get up/down the river + from the boatyards nearby. This part was heavily silted up, so the river authority of the day had silt dredgers and gianormous barges to collect the debris.
The base of the river now had a deep "cut" in it, this was where i caught big roach, and masssive eels.
Its probably now or probably partially silted up????

Reuben heatons thermometer never tell me porkies -honest. Accurate to the nearest n'th of a degree. Was very hot where i was standing. The heat radiating upwards from the concrete platform. The blowback of heat reflected from the rivers surface, plus the added bonus of additional heat from the sun helped me gain the critical reading.did it twice......Honest:thumbs:

Yawn. Sorry Nogbert, but if you start practicing what you preach and stop posting pointless, mickey mouse drivel that nobody cares about, looking for your 5 minutes of fame, then you might find people start posting up their catch reports again and you might actually learn something worthwhile. That will explain it then, I recently bought some Reubens also, I carefully marked each foot of cable with a piece of electrical tape and even numbered them to know how deep I was taking a reading. First outing in the boat, I dropped the receptor over the side with a light weight attached and realised I had just been tucked up and bought a pile of manure.

I may be unlucky and all the rest are devastating accurate but given your air temp reading and the underwater reading I got from now on I will suffice with sticking my hand in and judging the temp by how quickly it turns blue.

try dipping you toe in the pond it gives a far more accurate reading than the hand. lol:thumbs:

Nick, + other members,

I brought the Reuben in good faith beleiving that for hard earned £££'s i would get something that was reasonable. O.k yesterdays temp was rather high -BUT where i was , was also very hot.
Spoke to Reubens + they confirmed that the unit measures outside air temp -as they would say accurately. However. the casing that the unit is housed in will ALSO take into account the total reading -so o/s air temp + units casing temp = air temp reading.
Hope the water temp was to everyones approval -it must have been as no comments made.
Will continue to post readings, however -will be more critical when temps soars into the 90's

So, can the thermometer scientists + experts out there please confirm which one is the most accurate + affordable + if this is the case please supply sensible and non-sarky details. Thanks.

Nogbert + Watto,

my one got stuck at -40c when in the outdoor mode. when the sensor went into in the river a few seconds later it readjusted and calibrated on auto mode.

The casing does get warm and a higher outside reading can be read.

We tested the readings at rhe science lab at uni and its pretty accurate within +/- 2 degrees

The useer who got the high reading was probably reading the sensor correctly due to as he said on a concret or rock platform.

Sand on a hot beach or the concrete footpath besides a swiming pool for example abroad will be a far hotter temperature than if the temperature was taken by a pool next to say grass. so yesterdays reading was 99% correct at the point where the reading was taken.

Nogbert,

I would imagine there is nothing wrong with your thermometer. However, the way you are measuring air temperature is incorrect.

When you measure air temperature in the sun you are actually measuring the combined effects of air temperature plus any radiant light energy that falls upon your temperature probe. Not only will the light energy cause your reading to increase, but radiant heat coming from the concrete bank will also do the same. Therefore the correct way to measure air temperature is to do it in the shade, and away from any sources of radiant heat energy.

hth..

fished at Ham today from 7.30 am until 11 , fished a 6 no 4 stick float ,2 lb maxima , 13 reflo ,size 18 b525 ,and fed maggot and hemp, rod and a half out in 5 foot of gin clear water , managed 12 roach and dace to 6 ounces ,generally fished terribly . Had sum fun though , hooked a large fish which i played for a good 10 minutes when from nowhere the fleet of canoes appeared long the inside and a rudder or paddle got hold of the line, found myself playing what i suspect was a barbel and a canoe , needless to say the fish was lost

Fished today on Ham/Petersham area of river. Loads of knocks but no fish.Chap in next swim was knocking out small silverfish on waggler + maggots and his son pulling in small stuff on a pole.

Started at around 8.00am until 2.00pm.

Had 3 rods out + Tried zig rigs (6foot down to 1 foot), pop ups, bottom baits, swowman rigs, fresh prawns, bread, corn and still nothing!. Spotted big carp rooting about in the margings mid morning, freelined a bait out in its path but it wasnt interested. Will try maggots on 3rd rod next time.

good flow + colour on main part of river.

Was the geezer you whitetoby?

mate thats unlucky !! i hate those bloody canoeists , they have no respect for other river users !! they have the whole width of the river and yet they choose to use the inside line , even after spotting fishermen in the area way upstream ! god it winds me right up !
sometimes you feel like catapulting them with 20ml boilies !! and have done !
made me feel better !

Apologies for the delay with this report.
Fished Twickenham bridge area on Tue/Wed night last week 8pm-1am, river pushing through, just an eel and a bream, lots of fish showing after midnight in the moonlight, one or two big crashes especially in the margins but no visual confirmation of species. Only bream for the guy fishing a bit further down from me. In need of a few days without rain I think.
Might try a morning session instead.

fishied teddington yesterday , great conditions , nice colour etc . missed a screamer an hour into the session , and nothing to show for it , a few knocks on boilies over pva pellets and hemp , but i suspect bream were the culprits ... i was the only one fishing , ok , although a weekday , there are normally a few others fishing .... guess its because we have had rain ??? thats the best time after a downpour !! also some geezers dog decided to chase 8 canada geese towards the river , and one nearly snapped one of my rods , colliding into it while on the rod pod ! was pretty ****ed with the owner !! for god sakes people , if you have a dog , keep it chained to a wall or something !!
