View Full Version : Crocodile Pike
So guys, we have talked about record Carp, anyone had a thought on these big 50lb Pike that have been spotted. I know I have seen Pike like crodiles in the Thames and also seen massive fish in the Trout reservoirs especially Bewl Water. Does anyone think it is possible for a pike to grow to 50 or even 60lbs in this country?

Reckon the best bet has to be one of the big unfished reservoirs, not necessarily a trout one, remember they "thrive on neglect" and as far as I know don't live that long, Ian W any ideas?

In the recent Bewl Pike Fishin I believe the best was 27lb,there may have been bigger but they were not reported.
Like carp, do pike grow bigger and better in warmer waters?
If this is the case then they could grow bigger in southern waters?
What sort of size do pike and relatives grow to in other countries?
Anyone have a view on these questions?
Cheers!

Acording to my mate who used to run a trout fishery they used to allow a 5% loss to pike. In somewhere like Gratham that is quite a lot of trout but then again there are a lot of pike there. Course fish thrive exceptioally well in reservoirs. Another mate of mine did a scuba dive in Bewl water looking for the original old bridge to mark it with a bouy, he told me he had never in his life seen such massive shoals of bream and roach. He also said he did see some massive pike and tout in there up to 20lbs. So.... if ever there is a chance of RMC purchasing a natural reservoir I would go for it just for the existing fish stocks.

John,
Have you considered registering your user name, you get some good benefits such as the ability to message certain people privately etc?

One of the big Irish loughs could produce a 50, as long as the gill nets are stopped.
