Hi Adrian,
I know this river well as me and my mates fished it about 20 years ago.Seen loads of carp at meadway bridge. looking from Lincoln Avenue side towards large weir.
found this biton info -its old but interesting esp the bit about barbel stocking. Cheers Nogbert

Have fished it once this season, and nothing but a couple of small chub up to 1lb.
To be honest there's far too many shopping trolleys, pushbikes, pushchairs and mopeds in the river, so I'll hit the Thames next time I think about going back.......
Well Mr R - as seen in Anglers Mail - should know as he lived right next to it!

The article is over 7 years old, so not exactly hot off the press.............
A dumped item every few months can become quite a statistic over 7 years.........!!
Bit different to when I fished it then and my girlfriend was at Kneller Girls School!!!! Does it still have those huge gudgeon?
Chub, barbel and carp for a start: low double ghost carp largest reported.
Not this season I hasten to add.
lovely river, it's what got me back into fishing after 10 years out. PM me if you would like to know how to get 5lb barbel and 4lb chub - happy to help.
Robin.

i thought all the barbel disappeared ? so how do you get them down there matey ? i have had chub to over 4lb by meadway bridge , but never had the barbel ... is there enough in the crane to warrant fishing for them mate or are they few and far between ?
Fancied a break from blanking on the tidal thames for Carp so I went down to the Crane last night at 9pm for an hour or so to the spot I fished in the summer. Swimfeeder with method mix and mixed pellets with pellet on a light hair rig brought 6 Chub, 4 small ones and two 3 and a half pounders - great fun in such a short amount of time and just 3 mins walk from my house.
I have now re-assured myself I can at least catch fish (if not from the tidal!).
Will be back again next week after the rain to see if the Barbel want to play ball. Had some nice ones to 6lb in the summer.
I recommend it for anyone after a fun short session.
Robin.

Fished the Crane a few times this season and had a fair few barbel and chub - nothing too big but great fun as RobV says. Same kind of tactics with a light hair rig but i've been using cut down boilies on the hair. My mate had a 7lb mirror a little while ago, again, on boilie.
