I'd like to set you all a challenge. I know for one, whenever I catch a fish, it's the same old shot. Me holding fish, looking at the head or tail, not smiling.

I look like an idiot when I smile anyway :)

What I'd like you to do, is, the next time you have a camera in your hand, taking a pic of a mate, or yourself, just have a look for that shot that is a little out of the ordinary. Or if you have any in your archive, then please feel free to post them up.

i'll start you off with a few I recently snapped of a catfish.

Another great thread idea Singy, I've been concentrating too much on techinique recently that I've forgotten to try and be a little more creative. My favourite shots are the ones where someone captures the photgraphers taking pictures of Fish and Angler

Here's one of my poorer contibutions but I shall certainly strive for something better now.

Just found this one which I quite like, as the background helps to draw out the fish whilst taken to the rule of thirds.

Sorry, but these sort of pictures really p*ss me off. This sort of behaviour is highly irresponsible. Fair play to Tim for catching a cracking fish, but what is the reasoning for chucking the bucket of water over him at that point. I have seen it happen a couple of times, where the captor had been "bucketted" like this with icy water and dropped the fish, once luckily onto the mat (though I doubt the fish really enjoyed even that) and the other time, not only did the captor flinch badly, the fish went absolutely mental, flipped clean out of his arms, off the mat and down the bank, across the gravel into the lake before anyone could even come close to trying to control it.
Thankfully it survived, but on its next capture, it had a lovely great cut down its side.

Think about the safety of the fish first guys before you play your water games, if you want to soak a mate, do it AFTER the fish has been returned.

Also, on another subject, I cant for the life of me work out why the picture of the carp from the carpark lake was taken there, why did the fish need to be carried all the way across the car park to be photographed

That's a good one Singy, did you have a polarising filter on the lens?

singy
12-05-2008, 17:04
Standard Canon UV filter and flash. Flat calm helped and angle to avoid flash bounce.

Surrey Sam
12-05-2008, 17:23
That worked really well, I certainly wouldn't have thought that it would work, as I'd have expected the water to behave a bit like glass and reflect the flash back, spoiling the effect. I can't wait now for the new season to start, l want to try something different with some of my fishy pics.

Seem to remember reading about that one, wasnt it a cat that got a basketball stuck in its gob. Was too bouyant for it to dive back down and was just bobbing about, until someone managed to get a knife to it (the ball) and puncture it, so it could spit it out.
