There was a 'lost' post I was in the middle of reading about only bivvies, no tents at Sandy and South....is this true?

Cheers

If I am right, allowing the use of tents would alter the legal defintition of land use, and classify the lakes as campsites in the eyes of the law. Allowing only Bivvies prevents this, as they are angling eqipment.

One of the Test Valley rules used to be that you couldn't have bivvies up during the day, as this was classed as camping by the local council.
The New Forest District Council don't take too kindly to campsites springing up anywhere and this would have meant, not only applying to be a campsite, but also having running water and flushing toilets on site.
(would have to be mains sewerage, not septic tanks, as the tanks, if broken would seep through the watercourse, which leads directly to the river Test, and the Council said this was a no-no)

We used to get people to roll up the sides of their bivvies during the day, unless it was raining.

You can imagine how much fun and hilarity we had trying to tell new members about that one.
(It was in the rule book, it might even still be, as no bivvies allowed during the day)

SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DOME (BIVVY) AND A TENT?
I know what the def of a bivvy is so don't tell me that but most bivvies theses days are TENTS!!!!!!
Bureaucratic rubbish more like

When I was head bailiff of TVAC, dome style bivvies didn't exist, so it wasn't an issue.
I know of certain waters down south where only, "umbrella based shelters are allowed"

You could say that if it was sold as a fishing shelter then it qualifies, but I agree that most domes are just very expensive tents anyway.

I'd would have thought even the most stupid council official would be easily able to distinguish between a tent used for fishing or camping due to the two carbon sticks sticking out in front.

What about tent manufacturers that have been commissioned to adapt tents for fishing purposes? Gelert are one manufacturer that I know of that have adapted some of their tents specifically for angling. Bureaucracy gone made once again!!!

Well everybody, we've heard that bivvy domes and tent domes are two different entities BUT, where would I stand if I designed and made my own dome???????????
Who but me, would be able to say whether it was a camping dome or an angling dome???????????

rik they have got rid of that stupid rule at long last you can have the bivvies up allday now thankfully
as for the bivvytent v brollie thing i have used both and i find the bivvy tent muck nicer to fish from as in the summer months my wife often (try sleeping 2 under a brollie) stays over the night and in the winter they are bloody warmer simple
next summer for short sessions i will buy a brollie system untill then i will enjoy my fishing tent

the same would probably happen as if you'd broken any other club rule and refused to acknowledge it, you'd have your ticket taken from you.
I hope the suggestion that you'd ignore rules that you think are stupid is only to play devils advocate and not a reality.

Tom,
I'm glad they got rid of it.
I wonder if the NFDC are aware?

If this is a water on the FAS ticket, then what the rulebook says and what the anglers do are two separate things....
Badshot lea pond allows 'camping', and some of the things I've seen down there are laughable - eg 5 man frame tents equipped with full size gas cookers and fidges (no s###!). At least a no tents rule allows the excesses to be ruled out!

Maybe this is a case of a: "I do it in a Bivvie" T shirt being issued or a sticker saying "This is a Bivvie" to stick on ones tent.

Just a funny though popped into my head,
Imagine if we were still to be fishing in tents,
walking around Horton and there is a big [censored] off 5 man tent with side rooms and built in toilet area's and stuff on the plateau swim,
what a sight for saw eyes that would be.
and whats more if it were Del in there as well,
lol lol lol
thank god i finish work soon,

hehehehe

Very interesting that the legal definition of a Bivvy is Angling Equipement - I have just contacted the Halifax re home contents innsurance and the nice man informed me that Bivvies, bedchairs and stoves etc are infact Camping equipment and thus not covered under my home policy. I posted a item on the forum warning people of this legal loophole. Excellent news on Frimley's first forty.
