Shame to see that Theale Lake 1 is being netted and handed over to carping pursuits. When I fished for specimen carp on RMC waters in the mid to late 70's we always manage to overcome "nuiscance fish" with less sophisticated rigs and baits we have now. Until the RMC expose of the carp potential of this lake local angleres were quietly capturing fish to mid 20's and they found the bream and tench stocks not one jot of a problem.
Lake 1 has produced 7lb tench for me and superb specimen perch. Bream stocks are up to 10lb level now.
For a specimen angler who is not interested in carp, this was a jewel of a lake.
I suppose the expression is carp rule..... boring!
