Ian,
Could you give us some advise on breaking strains/ amounts , for use in Barbel and Pike fishing.
I have tried braid but dont feel very sure with them, maybe I got the wrong sort.
Thanks

They do float though dont they??
I have the 20lb on my marker rod but i couldnt use it for fishing as it lifted up off the bottom soon after casting out. Have you found this Ian?

Ian has tried it Starrie and absolutly hates it.
Paul i have only used it for carp on horton and kingmead as i what to present a bait tight to the bottom, when spinning i use a floating braid

Starrie,
How do you find it when trying to get distance with it, from what i've heard - its a No...No...

Paul at present i am only fishing Horton and Kingsmead the need to cast out more than 80/90 yards are few and far between. i have had no problem with them i use 3lb Arbitrator
& 6010 Shimano this tackle has not stoped me fishing were i like
hope this helps

Cheers starrie,
Looks like i'll have to look into it a little more. At the moment i've been using the Fox Submerge and it doesn't sink as well as what im after. Hutchys stuff was great but only lasted about a month, discoloured and frayed.
So im out looking again. I know that to get a good sinking braid it has to be a little on the thick side, as it takes im water which makes it sink, but i also need the low diameter for certain situations when im fishing at range 130yrd+.
Looks as if im gonna need another 4 spools!!

Hiya,
I have been using the Gardner braid for a while now and I have had no trouble with it. It is by far the best braid that I have used as far as sinking is concerned.
I must admit that for distance work i did have a bit of trouble until i upped my lead size an ounce. I am not really talking huge ranges here but well over a hundred will do me fine and I can whack the Gardner braid over a hundred with my big reels. I really have got good confidence with using this braid but as I had ten twenties since September from a pretty hard water where i was having difficulties getting a bite before I spose i would have.
Hope this helps a little,
Andy
Cheers Andy, Just one quick question for ya, has it discoloured badly?
Looks like what i'll have to do is get another 4 spools for me reels to spool up with some 'good' sinking braid and keep me intermediate and long range spools.
I have heard that there are another two brands come out. One by Nashy not sure of the name and one from Fox called Gravity (i think) has anybody seen or used these yet?

The Gardner braid does chane colour a bit but I havent found it to be a problem. Havent tried the others though.
Andy
Yeah how much does it change Andy, when i was using hutchys gear it went white very quickly - i would rather have a less 'sinking' braid than one that goes white.

It idnt go white. It did fade a bit but I think it looks just like that weed you wind in sometimes. You know, the stuff with little green flacks in it. It has got a bit paler though.
Andy
Have you still got it on ya reels? perhaps i can have a look at it during the social....
It sounds great stuff for hugging the bottom, im just a bit concerned on how pale it is going to go. Don't want to waste another £120 like i done on Hutchy's.

At great risk to my life and limb I have just had a three day trip into the unknown depths of my fishing cupboard and delved into my monstrous rod bag for you. I have looked at the braid that is on my reels and I can happily report that it actually doesnt look too different to how it does on a spool that I havent used yet. It is a bit paler but it looks more green than white. Sort of green with pale flecks rather than the other way round. Hmmm off to bandage my wounds from crashing through rods that havent seen the light of day for some years and bags that god knows what lives inside now. lol
Andy
Cheers Andy, you Moderators can be so helpful at times.....
Big Up the Moderators.........lol
