Just thought that i would take this oppertunity to let any of you who suffer with Back pain of any sort, know of the amazing pain relief available if you forsake the N.H.S, and are able to go private through funds or insurance.
About 4 months ago i began to get lots of pains in my left buttock and down my left leg, i went to my Doctor who poo pood me off with painkillers as they usually do and told me that it was not my back which was the problem, " just a bit of wear and tear" on the joints was diagnosed.
Well the wear and tear got worse untill i could barely walk at which stage the Doctor wrote a letter to my local Hospital to get me an appointment with a Rheumatologist, this appointment came through for the 17th september which was at this point still 3+ months away, so i decided to enquire into the private medical sector to see what could be done by them and how much it would cost as i do not have any medical insurance.
At the beginning of July i had a cosultation with a professor of rheumatolgy, then i had 6 visits to their physiotherapists which was extremely helpful but did not take all the pain away another examination by the professor and he diagnosed that i had a slipped disc which only time would to heal as there is no cure so to speak but he told me of a procedure which could be done to reduce the pain and allow the healing process to go ahead whilst surpressing my pain, the process involved me having an epidural injection into my spine into which they inject dye, which then flows up my spinal column and shows on a screen which disc is leaking
fluide (damaged) they then inject using the screen cortizone steroid and local annaesthetic into the damaged area which subdues the pain and assists the healing process.
Well i had this done yesterday in the London independant Hospital and today my pain is 75% less and i feel a whole lot better, and all done in three weeks and the cost, well lets just say that it was an awful lot less than i have lost at work (being self employed) over the last few months and worth every penny.

Crayfisher I know where your coming from.Having waited six months for a special x ray on the NHS.They told me it wasn't bad enough to operate on ie I'd have to wait untill I was nearly crippled before they do anything.
I went privately to an Ostepath who after three sessions had relieved the pain.I now go every 6 weeks for an MOT and he keeps me working. As you said alot cheeper than losing time off work I'm also self employed.
It's amazing how a bad back can be linked to an old leg injury. The NHS couldn't spot it but the ostepath did and cured it.

My private medical insurance covers myself and my wife + my 2 kids.
Everything is covered, and I mean everything.
If I have to go to an NHS hospital, then they pay me loads of money aswell.

All this costs £600 a year.
How many days work is that?
(for me it's only 2, but then again, I'm an overpaid IT geezer)
