I do not doubt the abillity of Rio Ferdinand, but how can anyone be worth that much?

I have had a few chats about this with loads of people and haven't met one yet who thinks he's worth it!

I thought I would raise this on here as being down south, there is probably loads of MAN U fans with an opinion.

not a chance he's worth £30m - he still has a tendency to make the odd costly mistake though it's down to one every 2 or 3 games as opposed to every game now.....he will be a great player - but the 7th best player in the world (on transfer value alone) - i think not.....

however as a leeds fan i think mr ferguson was completely correct to pay that much for him....we can now buy emerton and a left back who can actually defend, we've got 3 great centre backs in woody, matteo and radebe....my only concern is that mr bowyer doesn't sign a new contract and amazingly next summer houllier has a change of heart and signs him on a free....i suspect the only reason bow didn't go this time was liverpool wouldn't give him a signing on fee so he could pay leeds the £1m he owes them for paying his legal fees.....

i think what everyone has forgoten is his age for a world class defender at his age is not often heard off normaly they are about26-30 so what will he be worth in a few years time?
too much, will see if a few years time to be honest i thought that leeds paid to much for him and look at it now they have made 12 million profect not bad for two seasons
before anyone says hes not world class the meaning world class is for a player to preform well on the world stage which he has done
give it a few years before saying its too much, it might mean a lot more trophys in the caberinate for man u
by the way i am NOT i repeat NOT a man u fan
speak to you all in a few days i'm of fishing!

OK Veron was a mistake but only because we got to many midfielders. But Rio will be playin every game in the centre of defence with Blanc.

A quality world cup, excellent performances in the champions league with leeds and a full season as leeds captain.
Plus all the attributes and potential he has I reckon he is worth the money, and possibly 10 years service out of him.
30 million to Man Utd is about £50 to Joe public.

I agree with what your saying, but £30 million?
He's only human, one bad tackle and that £30 mill pi**ed up the wall.
The whole transfer market has gone mad, and it's the fans who end up paying in the long run.

We'll stop them for sure this season they won't win a thing.

Mark1 there is always that element in any transfer (1 tackle) but football is all about gambles, I think there is also insurances against that happening.

yep i hate the fact that ticket prices have gone through the roof. £35 for 2 hours down the spurs (sometimes you could call it football) but Sir Glenn will get it right.

Well I think they have paid well over the top.... they should have waited a couple of years and got him on a free, like Englands no.1 defender. Still wont stop another double...

As a Chelsea fan I always enjoy watching Spurs, that's 6 points in the bag already this season.
I agree Sir Glenn is one of the best managers in the game and I was very sorry to see him go, especially when he bought Poyet?

He's worth more than £30 million if Utd win the Champions League and/or the Premiership.

Fergie will have 'em fired up for this season after winning the wooden spoon last year, anyone under-performing is out next summer no mistake. Only reason for last years debacle was the dodge defence following the sale of Jaap Stam 'big dutchman', so with that sorted and Ruud notching the goals then should be ok for a trophy or two. Just need Forlan to get his finger out too, and as for Veron....

Who knows, might even take the trouble to visit myself after a six year absence! I retired at the same time as Eric the King when the money became more important then the footie....
