Ian,
Which of the RMC waters do you regard as the best venue for Roach.
River or Lake
I remember Fred catching some good Roach from Thorpe Park, was it ever netted?
Bob Hornegold
I don't know about now Bob but Shepperton sometimes dishes out a 2lb specimen. I have had some nice roach from there. The only problem is you have to fight through the small perch & roach to get them.
Tony
Hi Guys,
This is slightly off topic, but I wouldn't want to catch a roach from anywhere but a river... in my mind, I have mapped certain species for certain terrain....
I don't really know the reason for this, but I know I just wouldn't be happy catching a 2lb (or bigger oin my dreams) roach from anywhere but the Hants Avon.
Bill.
I know what you mean Billy, i can't ever see myself fishing for still water Barbel or Chub........just don't feel right

Its a personally thing, but Chub fishing for me has to be done on a moving river not to big either, Fishers Green is perfect.
Also the way i fish for them, (nearly falling out of trees.......eh Cornish..) its just the way i enjoy my chub fishing.

fisher_of_carp,
I have to side with Paulm on this one. I couldn't imagine wanting to catch either barbel or chub from a stillwater !! In fact, I'd keep well clear of a lake that openly promoted barbel fishing in stillwaters !!!!

Does that mean that if your normal route was to go to the river past a lake that promoted stillwater barbel fishing that you would take a detour to go further round it Billy? lol
Andy
If I really needed to get there, I'd fish the opposite bank /images/forum/icons/smile.gif

Yeah Yeah, course you would lol And only fish in the near margins, we know
Glad we cleared that one up /images/forum/icons/smile.gif Now back to roach...
Didn't Taverham (river Wensum) used to produce decent roach ?
Bill.
Thats it mate, its all about enjoying yourself and forgeting about work.........Arhhhhhhh....let me out, i want to go fishing.
Right me thinks we should get back to the thread before we trash it.!!
Billy you mentioned to me a while ago of a place up in Norfolk!! I know it wasn't a RMC water but where was it?

Ian,
Getting back to the point, why do you think Arena and Linch Hill are producing so many good Roach.
I fished Arena when it was day ticket for the carp, never thinking it held such big Roach.
Would it be the depth that protected these fish?
On the other matter; chub and barbel in lakes, if you caught a good fish from say the top pit at Fishers Green ( which is running water ) would this not count.
In Pete Frost book" Barbel" there are photographs of the low section of the river Lee where it use to flood.
Surely this is natural stocking, Roach inhabit all types of water and are a legitimate target where ever they are caught.
The King George at Chingford held some very big Roach unfished for by all but a handfull of anglers.
Again would it have been the depth of water that protected these fish.

Bob,
Myself and my fishing buddy,Paul....have had roach over 2lb from the South lake at Yateley before it became day ticket.
I've come close to the 2lb mark from the Wey Navigation Canal near Weybridge a few times too..only when using hemp and tares.....they will not look at maggots or casters.
Cheers,
Smarts
Ian, I remember catching a 2lb roach from the Chigborough venue (big pit) the season before last, not sure if this was a one off or theres a good head of them in there?

Clive,
That sounds good, never fished Chigborough, come on lads lets have some info.
Thanks
Bob Hornegold
My biggest Chub ever was caught from a stream fed lake.... it took me 4 weeks to catch it... prebaiting and in the end I caught on freelined cheese paste. The most difficult fish I have ever had to catch. I had a few of his mates as well. The lake held 8 chub from 3lb 2oz to daddy at 6lb 2oz I had all 8.
Tony
I caught a 2lbs 8ozs from Jones last year on a
strawberry boilie by the islands.

daveh,
When I used to fish it, there were some nice roach in the back pit.
I would think he's a very lucky roach to have lasted with all those cats.
