come up chaps something must of happen to some of you that left you s#####g your pants! i have 2 stories, the first one is covered in the delkims or nevelle alarms but the second one was unreal, i was fishing this lake that is near some industeral units, i had been up there alot over the month before, any way on the night in question i had just been woken up by a carp it was i lovely clear night so i didnt need to use a torch to land it, put it on the unhooking mat , took a picture and turned my torch on toe weight it, this took about 10seconds, the next thing i know is that a 12bore has been fired at me about 300yrds away!! s##t a brick or what. it then all goes quite back goes the fish and i just stod there lisening and i could here poeple tring to break into the buildings that was it on to the police and the owner and into the woods for me and i just stod there(i could see any one coming for about250yrds) until the armed police unit turned up that took30mins and it felt like 30hrs i can tell you, the worst thing about waiting was the fact that the person still had at least one barrel still loaded, after that i packed up and got the missus out of bed at 1.30am to pick me up as i was to shaken up to drive home

this happened march 1997... me and 2 friends had been to see another mate for a social on burghfield 1 night.. he was fishing on the end of the high bank point.....i kept hearing "something" down the path but didnt really think anything of it...but as we left i pulled loads of dead branches across the path...just to be safe... walking back 2 the car at about midnight we heard a gun shot, then a bolt action rifle being reloaded... and then another shot. now my 2 mates thought that we were being shot at from across the bay, so started running, but id twigged that the shots were coming from below us ( we were on a high bank 25/30 ft above the lake ) so just calmly carryed on walking.... id walked on about another 30ft when i heard this guy walking though the bushes back up onto the path..... i looked over my shoulder to see matey pointing the rifle straight at me when all of a sudden... BANG... i heard the bullet whistle past no more than a foot from my head and clatter though these trees.... ben johnson wouldnt have seen which way i went i can tell you... we now had a big problem.... a nutter with a gun... a mate stuck out on the end of a point.... and a open strech of bank between us... him ... and the car.... we doubled back along the river until we were more or less opposite him and just layed in the bushes listening to him walk up and down this section of bank where he must have known hed be able to see us pass.. what do you do... one of my mates wanted to go back and do him.... but sticks against a gun aint much use.. so that was a bad idea... my other mate wanted to swim across the river as it was the only safe way to "escape".. it was bloody freezing...so that was a bad idea... in the end we layed there for about an hour and just waited to see what he did...if he walked off to the right he was on his way up to the end of the point...and we would have to go back because of our mate fishing... he walked to the left and away.. thank f*** ! we ran back to the car, when we were in the car park another car came flying in, hand brake turned, and wheelspun away.... just to s**t us up some more... my mate rang me the next morning and asked if wed been messing around that night ! ! he had a few days of his trip left so i said no.. why? all the brances that id put across the path the night before had been moved and neatly stacked to the side.... he hadnt heard a thing... when i then told him what had happened he was home in 2 hours !

Quite a few years ago i used to fish place called Keston ponds near bromley in Kent.
One night we were all fishing and one of the crew "dickie Darren"was asleep in his bivvy when he was woken up by a shot-gun shoved in his face and robbed at gun point.
Still to this day can't work out why he targeted a angler....
All Darren had on him was about £12.50.....(well worth it)
and the robber didn't even take his tackle !!!!!!!!!

Alright Chaps, When I used to live in Derbyshire, we used to fish lakes on rumours, and sightings, which were not, fished by carp anglers. We heard about a strange little lake, which was basically in a gap between a canal towpath and a railway embankment. The lake was very dirty, so we had not seen any fish, but thought we would give it a go anyway. I cast out and had two small carp, within the hour, result me thinks I like this place. As it got darker, the rain started coming down, and thunder was cracking all over the place. Just on dusk, the rain had slowed and I was looking out from my brolly at the railway embankment, when I saw a huge cat come up the side, walk on the top for a while, and drop down the other side. My mate did not really believe me, as donÂ’t most people, but I know what I saw, and it crapped me up big style! Although my mate said, he wasnÂ’t bothered, neither of us slept that night, and we went home, as soon as the first rays of light came up. I have never ever been so scared. As the lake had no name, we christened it Scary Pond, which we still use to this day. I went on to fish the lake, on loads more occasions, as did my mate, in pairs or on our own, and never did I see anything again, although the place still had an eerie feel to it! The fishing was good though, and I managed my first Derbyshire Twenty from the lake a few months later! Cheers Garth

little pikey kids walking around the mead a while back with a rifle,
proper big thing it was as well, luckily for the anglers they were shooting ducks, unkucky for the ducks though,
old bill got called but one of these days they will either hurt someone pretty bad or they will get hurt very bad back,
i know a lot of the guys know who these kids are and will take things into there own hands and even air rigle pellets can do damage, still got one in my hand, after 10 yrs,

Another time I was fishing Throop on the dorset stour a few years ago, with my brother. It was blowing hooligan, and we settled under the old Willow tree. After an hour we decided on a move, 50 yards up stream. No sooner than we had put our gear down, we heard an almighty CRACK, and looked around to see the old willow tree come down, right where we had been sitting.

We took this as an omen and went home.

you'll all think i'm mad but what the hell, fishing with a mate a few years ago - sharing a bivvy (he had no tackle, perfectly inosent) anyway this lake had a rep for huge numbers of geese - we're talking real numbers, during the course of the night he woke up to see the whole area we were fishing totally surrounded, must have been hundereds of them. apparently he's got this thing about birds - well there was this duck and it was stood about 5 feet from the front of the bivvy and just stared with its head to one side without moving - my mate was convinced it was staring at him - he got so wound up he ran out of the bivvy - whole place erupted geese ducks n whatever going mental in every direction it was deaffening there must have been about an acre square of the feathered funsters - scared the absolute cack out of me when they had cleared off wound the rods in and zipped up - strange night really - felt a right [censored] the next morning, still not a big fan now - nasty flappy, squawking, peckin ba5tards....

Nothing like having a carp rub against your bare legs in shallow murky water when baiting up to s4it you up....*ucking ell its an anaconda !...mmm maybe not..

also to crack off and have a 2 oz lead winging its way towards people on the opposite side of a lake does nothing to make for a relaxing days fishing !

I think this is an interesting thread so I'll keep it going.
I used to fish Redmire on the winter syndicate and this happened early on in the first year.
The first time I arrived at the mire I was stunned by the beauty of the Evening pitch,it was autumn and the foilage and carpet of leaves is stunning and I fished it for a few weeks during my time there. Now I was aware that this particular pitch has quite a reputation for being haunted.Yeah.

Anyway, one particular evening there was no moon at all. There is only one way to describe it when it is like that down there, pitch bloody black. I've never seen it so black anywhere else. So, my mate had gone back to his Willow pitch on the other side,we were the only two on lake and I was sitting outside, silently, listening for fish and soaking up the air and atmosphere and thinking in anticipation of the coming week, very happy man.I must admit I think i had had a solitary Turkish cigareete I had found on the ground earlier but was extremley focused and as you know all senses are heightened and very real in the silence. Anyway... I heard what I thought was a rat rustling about on the water line about 20 feet away and it was getting closer little by little. Rats don't bother me like some people so I stayed very quite. When it got near to the rods it stopped. I could sense it was know aware I was there and was trying to see me in the pitch. It was now no more than ten feet away.So what! Rat.Heh. Then it started to make a noise (hard to explain)growl then it started to make a snarling and then a combination of the two. I couldn't move, this was most definately not a rat , it was considerably bigger and annoyed. It was so black I couldn't do anything but just sit and stare at this [censored] off thing in the dark. At this point it decided to run up the bank straight at me. Well, it all went a bit slow motion from there as it ran up and past me (inches)at great speed to my right and was gone.It was like someone had just poured a skip full of iced cold water all over me. I had stopped breathing. How I didn't need to change my trousers I will never know. Everything had gone a little tight, don't you know. Afterwards, in my zipped up Aqua I considered a badger but hey that would have to have been King Badger that had just run past me.God knows what it was but I know who was more scared when it started snarling.I've never heard anything like that. Now that really did get my focus!!!!

Come on I know there are many more of these stories out there and quite a few really silly practical (sick) joke stories.

I'll start a new thread on Practical Jokes keep these real. Sleep well/Whoooooa...

it all turned out ok the boat driver was going to moor on a island but changed his mind but one lady had all ready jumped of leaving her stuck on the island for the night.

Not fishing - but on the way to fish:

Driving to Stanford le Hope in the wee small hours - first time so don't know the route etc etc going at a speed appropriate to about 3am. (Just slightly over the speed limi t officer)

Just about to go under the road bridge when I see this yawning chasm in front of me - s@dding great hole in the road that I cant see the bottom of.

Time slowed - slammed on the brakes (of course) - thought 'what the f@ck is that doing there' - braced myself to slide gracefully over the edge - gripped the steering wheel and prepared for free fall, ready to meet my maker.

Couldn't understand why I hadn't gone in - thought I must be balanced like the scene in The Italian Job - then, in the headlight, saw the ripples from the water that I had stopped in!! It was a couple of weeks ago when we had all that rain.

THEN I got scared - heart kicked in, adrenaline let loose, thought I was going to have a heart attack.

Funny how the fear kicks in after & not at the time.

Had a mouse run accross my head as I laid half-asleep on my bedchair one evening last winter. Jumped so high I got imprints of my brolly spokes on my face.
