Load Time

Why does SimOn's picture take so much longer to load than anyone else's? Not really a prob, just curious.

cos its a much bigger file for some reason.

Once it is saved in your temporary internet folder in windows it will load a lot quicker the second time and every time after that. Unless you clean up the temporary internet folder of course

Yes I always clear the temp files and history, and cookies too. Is there a limit on file size for pics? I would have thought that a full page thread could take a while to fully load.

Sometimes it is a good idea to keep your temp files and cookies... yiou can limit the size say to 10 or 20mb and when it reaches that size the older ones will delete themselves. It helps make the PC run faster when online.

I understand what your saying but I prefer to limit the cookies I allow access to my pc, and regularly clean up the internet files that build up. Just a security habit I guess.

I have a fast pc anyway (Dell 933Mhz P3, 256Mb RAM, 64Mb graphics), so I'm not experiencing any probs, but others might be. I know my previous pc would have struggled.

Did I see a previous post from Ian or Bill suggesting a file limit of 100K?

I see that somewhere too, but I think that was a picture sent via email for the fish competition if my memory serves me right, My PC is nearly 4 years old but upgraded and I don't have a problem although I only have a P2 266, 192mb Ram, 8mb Graphics etc... I have my Temporary internet files limited at 20mb, that is about a weeks surfing for me, as for cookies I keep them all as they are such small files that they don't take up much memory. I do review them every now and again to delete the ones that I don't need though.

My picture takes longer to load because the fish is sooo huge, or is it cos I'm worth the wait & so handsome (so my mum says).....no sorry guys, I was playing around with my online pics trying to get one which didn't look so pixelated & tried using a full size JPG.....I have now changed it back to a much smaller pic from my site....you still can't appreciate my beauty though!!!

No prob with your original pic mate, just interested in the big difference in load times. The only decent pic i've got has me with a nice chub, but I look like the wild man of Borneo on Army Day, so I'll wait until I get one which highlights my Norse god-like visage!

...yeah, mines a Primus stainless steel one!!....(mug that is)....in truth maybe my pic is better off small and pixelated! Nice idea though...
