Hi all,
just want to clear a few things up which i am not too clear on with ref to the boat pool b4 i get up there,
1) am i right in saying that no fish is to be retained for any period of time now ???
2) even though they are frowned upon, the rules mention nothing of bait boats, are they allowed ???
3) mantis ?? is this ok for carping is good on the abbrasion thing so would think it will be fine ???
4) not a rule i know but if anyone see's me this weekend i haven;'t been up there yet to introduce meself so sort me out a cuppa and we'll get on great ;-) tall bleach blonde geezer, will probably be seen arkwardly perched in a tree somewhere above the lake,

thats about all folkes,

cant wait,

andy

hello andy! ian can clarify these, as well as the other bailiffs online.

1) NO fish to be retained AT ALL!! a couple of cats have turned over recently. better be safe than sorry!

2) Bait boats. well, the pool is only 3 acres at the most! is there any need for a bait boat? if you cant reach anywhere on the lake with your rig, PVA bag or spod, then you are sad. sorry. plus the swans try and rape them!! (seriously).

3) Cant comment on the hooklink. IMHO use 25lb at least if mantis. ollie lost a cat in spain using 25lb snakebite gold, the pads wore straight through it. the mantis is rather thin, so could harm mouths / pads. use with care. Ian, could you clarify this one please. i would use 60lb kevlar.

4) Stay out of the trees! no climbing now on RMC waters.

see you there andy! i will be about on saturday with that winch rod for you.

nice one for that sam,
didn't know about the trees not being climbable now so at least i now know.
the boat more than anything was for long distance livebaiting, as my rods aren't beefy enough really to wack out a 4-5 oz lead 120+yrds,
no relevance but i thought it was about 6 acres ???
as for the mantis, your right it is pretty thin so may stick with me quicksilver.
hope didn't loose any big cats but a shame no matter how small they were.
as for the winch rod,
am really really grateful mate but ended up chopping up an old carp rod as couldn't get a spare top section so no need for it now, but once again very grateful for the offer.

see ya on sat mate.

Hi Sam, just a quick query.
I know there is no tree climbing, but why is there climbing pegs nailed to some of the trees, surely the squirrels aren't that cr*p at climbing are they /forum/images/icons/wink.gif/forum/images/icons/laugh.gif/forum/images/icons/wink.gif

Alright Simon, how are you?

Use the winch rig for the livies Andy!

andy_w21uk
08-05-2002, 10:21
simon.
i am fine with those rules and it's recommended a 50 and a min of 42.
Mike,
the tree pegs are there for when tree climbing use to be allowed, it was allowed 2 years back, not sure about last year,
as i mentioned garth my rods aren't really beefy enough for the winch method at long distance,
sure they can cast 3 maybe 3.75 oz but i wouldn't be that comfortable using bigger leads at distance, if i get on well with the winch method then i will use it, but i am just weighing up my options if i dont get on too well,
thanks for clarifying the rules on boats, opinions will be taken into concideration although if i can officially use it and need to then i will. I am not one to fall out with people and cant wait to have a good crack with the lads, but rules will be treated differently to personal views.

Andy,
There really is no need for a bait boat at the Boat Pool, at the most it's a lob to the middle of the pool.
Many of the best places at the Pool are only a few yards from the bank.
I'm not sure how big the Pool is, but you do not need to use the same tactics as at Jones.
As for tree climbing, Health and Safety plus insurance do not look apon this tactic to kindly now.

as i have said i just wanted to know the official situation.

Aaah, that explains the pegs.
Andy, as Bob says, a lot of the fish seem to be coming from not too far out at the moment, so a lob should be ok.
Hopefully see you down there this weekend.

Mike.

p.s. I have had no joy with the rattlers, apparently they have stopped making them /forum/images/icons/frown.gif

To our 'Jack' from the forum.....nice one fella!!

Got to see some of the carp this weekend.....what beauties! Nice of them to jump right out for a good look too!!! ( working on the 'pick up the darn hookbait' theory now...)!

andy_w21uk
13-05-2002, 11:38
150lb + maybe although may be an idea to limit yourself to just 1 bottle as dont think after 3 you could bring in a gudgeon let alone a 150lb cat. lol
the carp indeed were on the move on sunday especially, saw a few good bream as well,
did tom fish in the end or collaspe somewhere in a drinken heap ???
smarts, i'll pop round for a cuppa on sat if your there mate, didn't realise it was you on the point with mike untill you had gone.

Fully intended to come round, Andy as I packed up first thing and saw your car in the park. It's just that the carp started feeding and then I was running late for the Ferris show!

Tom had 5 tench and 5 bream up to 12ish, I think he said after a move.

Looks like the fish are all beginning to play ball....makes it more hurtfull coming home with nowt!

he had to be up and off by 6 as well, certainly knows what he is doing dont he,
you reckon he takes bribes ??????

Tom

Tom
15-05-2002, 12:33
I still haven't managed to make it down there yet - far too much work and even less time! The weather looks spot on so hopefully a few fish will be caught & I might get to see some of the really big fish in there (might even catch one myself!).

Tom

Smarts
15-05-2002, 12:36
Up in the lodge, Ian......Gosh....we're hardcore anglers who don't set foot in such luxuries!!.....(only joking, Starrie and friends!). I haven't joined in on the barby front yet due to just having made that awkward cast that I'm loathe to move!!

I will do some stalking on the Sunday instead. Am I able to stalk from 'anywhere' on the lake, or from designated swims only?

(experience tells me that cat anglers are indeed a great bunch of honest and open guys!...how refreshing!).

andy_w21uk
15-05-2002, 12:49
smarts.
what myself and northern james did on sat night, was cast out the leads, winch the link back and clip it up on the bail arm,
them when we returned somewhat worse for wear and after being attacked by the swan we clipped on the bait and wound it down to the lead, simple and quite easy to do even in a little bit of a drunken state.

It's not so much that we're hard core anglers, that don't want to wind in, it's mainly because by the time Smarts has finished tidying up his messy side of the swim, we haven't got time to do anything else /forum/images/icons/shocked.gif/forum/images/icons/laugh.gif/forum/images/icons/laugh.gif/forum/images/icons/shocked.gif

Yes, Jack...hence the 'Doris and Daisy' tag pinned to us by Rivercarper........two old ladies on the bank!!

I fear that the Boat Pool has a few new 'characters' on it's bank this season!

sounds to me like you all been smoking something green.
boat pool proves a tricky bu99er again.
lots of missed runs and lost fish on friday night, at least one lost on sat night.
40lb cat on thurs night
and sunday, well less said about that the better,
lets just say we caught something of around 25lb but wasn't a carp or a cat,
will leave the detective work down to you.
