alright lads.
i'm gonna take a trip down to a large fish mongers this weekend to pick up some bait, just wondered if anyone was after anything in particular for the boat pool/match/split etc etc while i was down there as would imagine the fish will be bags cheaper than tackle stores and sainsbury's etc,

I'm ok at the moment cheers Andy, I am going to concentrate on liveys (and you know about the boilies /forum/images/icons/wink.gif)

Could be worth PM ing Tug, I think he is trying to source some Eels for bait.

Cheers,
Mike.

what dead baits ??
yeah !!!!
wouldn;t have thought fish mongers sold live fish anyway and i've fished the boat pool b4 so know the crack on livelies and where they come from.

Eels and shellfish are often bought and sold from large retailers alive ,alive-o- to retain their freshness!

would love to use live eels on there but wont usless i catch them from there which is possible,
shellfish i dont use anyway.
so if i can get some eels whats the best way to kill em,
as they dont die by lack of water and struggled b4 to grip em so whack em on the eds.

No-one likes to kill any fish....but a sharp filleting knife used to sever the spine behind the head does the job proud. No need to cut toooooo deep.

PS..The eel will wiggle as do dogfish even when dead due to their cartlidge skeletons......before you start mashing it with a housebrick!

cheers for that mate.
last think i need is a half alive fish as you say i really dont like killing fish, so this seems the best approach,

If you want to use them immediately......do another nick an inch from the tail too....stops them curling up around your tackle..(oooo...nursey)....

will probably if i can get a few and send them to the great lake in the sky asap, bung em in the freezer and use and and when i need em,
there still many little pike in the boat pool,
as they were a bit of a pain a few years ago.
ended up using a small one for bait.

Only seen one pike around 2lb.....but there are regular spinning missions by the bailiffs to winkle any out. Was a decent double hanging around by the concrete swim as I was told by a couple or regulars...(which is where I've seen the spinning taking place../forum/images/icons/wink.gif)

seem to be an iflus of this size pike in there,
never caught one bigger than 4lb, but had loads while spinning for perch that were 1-2 lb.
all went into kingsmead as instucted at the time or back out into the lake in 2 halfs containing a large single.
never had any joy on em although suprises as pike flesh does honk pretty bad.

As old Smarty pants said, they are mostly in the up to 5lb bracket, but Crippin is doing a great job of thinning them out.
There was a 14lber caught last week by the outlet into Kingsmead, and I am pretty sure that it then went all the way into there.
I've had no problems with Pike attacking my livelies so far (but then again, I've had no problems with the Catfish attacking them either /forum/images/icons/frown.gif

Was planning to go down (oo-er matron) tomorrow night for a few hours, but I think the weather will put me off.
Planning to do the weekend though, so hopefully I might catch something (other than this bl**dy cold I've got)

See you all soon,

Mike the elusive pussy chaser.
