I read anything by Chris Yates and Kevin Maddocks but the I have read many of the really old stuff like books that Chris Yates used to read when he was my age. One of the best books ever written is"carp fever" by Kevin Maddocks.
Alex The Horseshoe hauler.
Agree with SAMR her Terry hearn in persuit of the largest i dont know about anyone else but as a younger angler he gives me such inspiration!

My latest is Neil's River Carping book.
A good read and you'll want to leg it to the rivers!
Alex....if you're field testing for Jim then you'd do a lot worse than have a campaign on a river.A proper assault could turn it inside out.

Andy
I'm sorry but I don't find Terry much of an insperation I find people like Chris Yates and Bob Jmaes and not to forget good old John Wilson they are an insperation I find Terry very down to earth which is what I like about him but thats my opinon his mate Dave is alright but he does'nt talk to many people.
Alex The Horseshoe hauler.
ok fair comment alex a lot of older carpers are not mentioned a lot but, Terry hearn wow! for an angler of his age to catch Carp to the size of Mary and a lot of big carp from hard waters got to give the lad credit mate. so where are fishing this year Alex?

dtd...........
That was in "A passion for angling" I saw it that was very funny but a great way to trick the fish it goes to show the lengths Chris will go to catch a carp.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned any books by Rob Maylin - I have just finished Basil's Bush and have just ordered a copy of Tiger Bay. Next will be Fox Pool but I will have to get saving for that!
Tom
my mate has basils bush he sys its a great book. would there be any chance of selling it?
rooky /images/forum/icons/smile.gif
andy rooke
In a word - No! /images/forum/icons/smile.gif
But I will help you find a copy - it's the easiest (and cheapest) of Robs books probably because it's the most recent and I imagine more were printed following the sucess of his previous titles.
A good starting point would be http://www.anglingbooks.net (http://www.anglebooks.com>http://www.anglebooks.com</A>)
Also go to your local secondhand bookshops - I have picked up some real bargins - mainly from shops that do not specialise in sporting or fishing books - as they do not realise the value of the books that they have. You never know you might find a copy of 'Casting at the Sun' in the bargin box for 50p (but I very much doubt it!)
I hope you find a copy and if you have any problems let me know as there are a few more places that you could get it from - sorry I want to keep these quiet as they have books that I want but can't afford at the moment.
Tom
cheers for the help mate /images/forum/icons/smile.gif

It's not on the carp theme....but John Wilson's book '50 years a fisherman' is a brilliant read.
After reading that you'll all be digging a carp lake in the backyard!

Loads of great books, all of Rob Maylins books are fantastic, Redmire pool is superb, Chris Yates Casting At The Sun, Hutchy's books, they're all great in their own way, oh and Jim Gibbinson Gravel Pit Carp and many many more....
My favourite book has got to be Hutchy's "A carp strikes back" Funny, and technical at the same time. The chapters on Savay are just awesome.
albert romp's 'a romp with carp'
excellent book with some of alberts more inspiring insights. particularly the articles on weed fishing and leadcore.
'carp fever' is the all time classic though. i have a rare first edition, the one with big bearded sir springate on the back!
**sam**
I'm not like other young anglers but I really can't be bothered to give all my views on it because I'm fed up with this web site.
Alex The Horseshoe hauler.
Not Being able to catch big Carp myself I do love reading about It.
I have read Maylins Fox pool, basils bush,Tiger Bay,Hutchys book(cant remember the name) savay,In Pusuit of The largest,Confessions of a carp Fisher by bb,Jim Gibbisons books, and now i'm half way Through river carping(by our very own Rivercarper) and i am thourghly enjoying it, loads of brilliant well earned fish caught by anglers spending lots of time pursuing cracking mostly uncaught fish,Excellent Book!!!!!!!!!!!

Alex,
Even though I am a young Carper I agree with you and think that Bob James and Chris Yates are an insiration. Passion For angling is a video I can never get bored of as every time I watch it I am always on the bank an hour later. Terry Hearn has done well and is great angler with alot of big fish to his name but give me Jamesy or Yatesy any day!!
A lot of people forget Terry had a lot of help from good anglers where as Chris Yates has not have any pros to help him okay he did have some help but we all need help at one stage in life I've had a lot of help since I have been fishing but its okay to admit it any one who says they have never had help I will take my hat off to them and thats why we read these books its just that some of us prefer old stlye anglers to the newer ones I'm one of them people but I like Matt Hayes as well and Terry Hearn I'm just not influenced by their ways of fishing.
Alex.
I think that one of the people that carp fishing does owe a lot of respect to is peter springate. Caught all the big fish before terry ect.

There have being quite a few anglers that have being some of the best ive meet and never wanted to take the limelight and never publised there catches. But alex is right. People like chris yates and fred taylor are the carp fishing god fathers and most bait companies took off due to people like kevin maddocks and lenny middleton dicovering H.N.V baits and the hair rig.
i agree.

TonyM you nearly made me blush or was it carrying the cheques to the bank. Many thanks from me and the others who have never written anything before or have never caught one of the named big fish.
That should sell a few more copies.... eh Neil,...only joking look forward to reading my copy when i get back to my carp fishing and all those blank nights....ha..ha
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
...hey Neil, I think it's better to be a pioneer rather than a sheep! There's not that many places left where you can do that these days.....
