Try a coleman, you can get them from argos/index, only thing is tho if you are worried about getting petrol over your hands whilst fishing then fill it the day before. I've used one for quite a while now, very compact and easy to use you can also get the double burner so you can put two kettles on so you can repay all those people you have sponged a cuppa off lol./images/forum/icons/tongue.gif

lofte - u going to the social mate??? if you are , i know who to go see when i want my pot noodles cooking!! ha!
happy cookin geez
Dan
p.s. dont bother buying a stove, get a mate thats got one , and use his.far too much hassle carrrying water, gas, cooker etc..
leaves you more room in the bag for food and beers!!!!! lol
Get a Primus mate
Far better than Colemans (in my opinion) no messing about with petrol, much smaller and no dodgy generators to keep replacing!!
Most decent fishing shops should stock them and if your a proper tart they do quality titanium models as well.
Bacon
Colemans are the biz, nothing can touch them.... take it from a winter Cod beach fisherman.
Tony
Im with the others, Coleman every time.
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
Primus stoves are designed for mountain climbers and such like and are made to be used in conditions far worse than you'll ever experience fishing. Colemans are good no doubt i've used and abused quite a few but once you switch to primus you won't look back.
Bacon
What fuel do Primus stoves use? Is it unleaded petrol or gas?
Tony
Right dan, ten years of lugging around kettles, stoves and water containers. The tides are turning mate. Errrr that'll be a fully cooked breakfast with toast and tea please <<<lol>>>
Getting back to the point, definately a coleman is the one to go for. I had a leak in my gas burner, could have been nasty.

I'm with the "Coleman Crew", simply superb!
How much should i be looking to pay?
/images/forum/icons/smile.gif
Lofte
I think they're £40 something quid but someone on here will probably know where you can get them cheaper.
If its a Coleman your talking about (sportser) then the best price i've found is £30 (i think) from millets (camping shop)
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
/images/forum/icons/cool.gif Colemans are brilliant!!! /images/forum/icons/cool.gif
Cheapskate angler

Straying from the subject a bit, what do you normally take cooking equiptment wise for a weekend session?
Weekend Session Cooking Bag:
Coleman Stove, Kettle, Frying Pan, 2 Mess Tins,
3 mini Bic Lighters, Knife, Fork, 2 Spoons,
Plate, CorkScrew (For Gutsy Red Wine), Tin Opener,
Thermal Coffe Mug with Lid, Wine Glass,
Coffee, Tea, Dried Milk, Coffe Mate, Sugar Cubes,
FOOD, BEER (maybe a little Jack Daniels in the winter to add to coffee).
Hope that helps, sometimes take more depending on what I cook, like steaks or stir fry's.

crispy - at least i know i wont have to lug any cooking gear about at the social, cus you'll be cooking for all of us!!!!
i would be rude not to with a fitted kitchen in your swim! lol
i take: a thermos flask of coffee, beers, and food. i let my mate carry the heavy stuff!
dan
I do like my home comforts, a mate of mine takes it further, preparing things from scratch on the bank, he takes about twice as much as me, things like cheese graters etc.
I met a couple of blokes about three years ago who were preparing a Spaghetti Bolognaise from scratch, mental.
DanTheMan
22-02-2001, 10:45
what ?? they killed the cow on the bank and minced it up?? mental!! lol
Dan
You got it all wrong Crispy-you need copious amounts of beer
a box of honey nut loops, the toaster OBVIOUSLEY and plenty of munch food ie monster munch, haribo sour mix, prawn crackers, strawberry boot laces etc,and a few squid to get a chinease, you know it makes sense when the munchies kick in !!!!!!
Keep on munchin
G_CHILD
I used a coleman but couldnt get on with ,it kept sooting up all my utensils tec were covered with soot.I changed the generator used coleman fluid, put redex in the unleaded petrol, and still the damn thong sooted up.
I now use a camping double burner with gas, only trouble its huge, dont know the make I "borrowed" it from the girlfriend.
One word of caution with the coleman, BE VERY CAREFUL
that you dont set light to your bivvy, I heard of this happening.

I wasn't sure if we could mention the munchies on here, blimey, ham and mushroom slices, onion ring crisps, salt & vinegar chip sticks, 48 stubbies of french lager sometimes creating a snakebite with Diamond White, mini pepperami's, party eggs, hot dogs, the list goes on.............
Still nice to round it all off with a big fat juicy steak sandwich with mustard and ketchup though!
beer, rice crispy squares, a mobile phone, the curry house/chinese takeaway number and a mate who isnt fishing but has access to the lake.
i tend to leave the cooking stuff at home these days. if im on an overnighter, i tend not to bother. a flask of hot water does the job for the odd cup of tea, pot noodle etc.
i eagerly await these new stoves ian is talking about though.
a water filter would be a good idea. nothing worse than leaking water all over your sleeping bag on the way to the swim!

couple of weeks ago, i had a big night out on the sauce on a sat, got up at 7am to go piking on the sunday, drove to mighty Maccas, and stopped off for a couple of sausage and egg Mcmuffins- all good, none bad, and i didn't even need a stove!!
hmmmm...
dan the man
There used to be a couple of guys who fished Wraysbury 1, and they just used water straight out of the lake straight into the kettle.

if you've read the dave lane book, you will know what the consequences of that are!! poor bloke!
Dan
I've not read that one Dan, and maybe I dont want to know. Something to do with bringing on the Aztec Two-Step so to speak??/images/forum/icons/laugh.gif
Dominos - what a god send - few weeks ago - abit peckish - ordered a pizza from moblie. They even drove to my swim on their moped to deliver it. Hows that for service. Not recommended though if you fish a busy water. Fortunatley it was just me and a mate on the bank.
Hows that for lazyness.
Dave R
Used to do that a few years ago, pizza man would deliver to the lake and we even got him to stop off at the off licence on the way and pick up beer, fags and rizla.
Spot on!

Lofte,
You should be able to get a coleman from Index shops in Littlewoods stores for under £30, including a case and filter funnel etc. They are the only stove to have, although in time the bottom of your kettle/pans will be black with soot and washing them is not much fun !
Ian,
Another reason everyone buys Colemans is that they are cheap to run. The new one your'e talking about is it another gas job ? because if it is it will be far more expensive to run than the coleman.
Neil
I keep reading that people are having everything go black using their Coleman. It used to happen to me but only if the pressure wasn't high enough and it was flaring a yellow flame, pump a few times when she's lit (now that's advice you can apply elsewhere).
The bottom of my kettle is black but it's so burnt on now none of it rubs off, also even when I use my frying pan I get no soot at all, nor on the old mess tins if I cook with them.
Strange!
I try to fill mine up when I finish a session, then no petrol on the hands, however I do usually wet my hands in the lake and crumble a couple of baits in my hands after I have used the stove!
my thoughts entirely!
might as well soak your baits in petrol!
(hope my little picture in the corner works!!)
keep it boiling!
**sam**
woohoo! i love this electronictrickery technology stuff!
**sam**
What about in the depths of winter when the gas won't come out of the canister enough to even boil a kettle?
well what ever one i buy hopefully before the kingsmead social if i can afford it you are all welcome those of you going that is to drop in for a cuppa! and those that time it wright a bancon sarny!
I wonder what i have gone a dropped my self in for?
Lofte
/images/forum/icons/smile.gif
Oh Ok then, I admit defeat, I still like my coleman though!
<snip>
I wonder what i have gone a dropped my self in for?

you have no idea mate! no idea! just you wait! i will be round with my cup! (stainless of course, honest!!)

I hope that tea of yours comes from Harrods & the water is mountain spring water.... actually maybe a bottle of water from Horseshoe boiled up may bring back a few memories... /images/forum/icons/laugh.gif sorry Alex

No petrol or gas, were not talking something similar to the Kelly Kettle
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
Maybe nuclear fusion? If it was a kelly kettle Ian must have massive pockets.... the mind boggles... no petrol or gas, fits in your pocket? You aint announcing this on April 1st are you Ian? I wonder if it uses a chemical reaction?

How come this stove is so good cos I've never seen you make a cup of coffee you usually come and drink mine.In fact you nearly as bad as the ace tea ponce him self Ron Buss.Come on Boss your turn to make the coffee.
I'll die of thirst waiting.
il will have to go with majority mate Colemans, very cheap, reliable small and compact, ideal heating up the bivvy on a cold winters night.

Ian is the report been done yet, can't wait to hear about this 'neat bit of kit', if it is all you say it is.!
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
....what a build up....this must be good, or have a Swedish Opair supplied with it to twiddle the knobs.....ooerrr.....
You were right Ian, looks like a nice bit of kit. Small light weight and compact. Every year i look for ways to reduce the ammount of tackle i take with me, to try and keep myself ready incase of a quick move.
I will certainly be going to view the stove myself.
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
Durrrr!.......I should have guessed!
Peter from Goldsworth Angling asked me if I knew where to source them,(they are made in Germany,I believe, and I work for a german company).
They are great for knocking up simple tin grub.
Smarts
or be unhelpful, rude and a pain in the a*se!!

Ian,
You of all people should know better. Importing foreign indeed.
Sorry, couldn't resist it.
Miller.
Ian, a British stove is one that has been born and bred here, or introduced as a stoveling......it's as simple as that.
Nice bit of kit though.
Miller.
I am going to hire a fork lift and take my belling clasic 1963 cooker with me, just to keep it British like /images/forum/icons/laugh.gif
Tony
Edited by scorpio on 27/02/01 07:10 PM (server time).

Any idea how many times you can fill the stove up from a standard bottle of lighter fluid? And how much does a bottle of lighter fluid cost these days?
Looks very good.....anyone want to buy a Primus stove?
I always thought lighter fluid was a form of petrol? Nice looking cooker though.
Tony
....actually I think lighter fluid is Butane isn't it??????
Therefore unless it is a butane / propane mix it would struggle to work in cold weather?
Lighter fuel comes in various forms.... you get the petrol based one for the zippo lighters and the gas for the others. Which is it? Gas or Petrol?
Tony
....these stoves are actually £24.99, if you look on the Goldsworth Angling website....

Had a look at the picture and review, pretty good, so i thought i'd order one to see what it was like and i'm well impressed!
There is no spillage from refilling no odour it really is that small and heats up the small kettles under two minutes. They are £24.99 plus £3 postage or £29.99 for the stove, padded carry case and a bottle of gas.
Highly recommended and well worth it
Paul
Paul would you say they are better then the colman petrol stove as i have now got some cash and am looking for one to buy very soon

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works lofte but we do a Primus stove for under £20! It boils and cooks very quickly and runs on gas. No horrible petrol to worry about on your hands. They also burn very well in winter and don't explode like colemans do. If you want the super duper Primus I think we sell them for £48. They are unbeatable. I don't know about Ians stove but Primus make things for Top mountaineers on serious expecitions and they have a superb reputation as a result.
Jim Rawcliffe
thats the only thing that i dislike about my coleman is the petrol on ya hands
rooky /images/forum/icons/smile.gif

Jim ive just been paid mate for my many hard hours at makka d's so will been on the phone to you ordering one, and hopefully a new sleeping bag cant wait!

i defenately wouldn't go for a petrol stove because it could ruin your fishing.
cheers

there lots of things that can spoli your fishing, just be carefull with them mate and youll be okay

I should like to add to my previous reply that when I said "Explode" I did not mean literally but we have had a number of customers who have had serious accidents with them. They flare up and I understand that the valve can go, causing serious flares. We have supplied a lot of new bivvies and sleeping bags as a result! However, many anglers and campers have used them for years and been completely satisfied. I just don't like petrol on my hands especially when I'm handling bait!
Jim
The stove that Ian has recommended really is good......but....
'phone for availability as I bought one for my uncle,(my 'Go-Gas does the job!),and there were only 3 left!!
I understand that there is a break in supply at the moment as manufacturers change and want more money!!
Call Goldswoth angling first,(see tried and tested),and they will let you know if they have stock in.
Smarts
Edited by Smarts on 12/03/01 01:39 PM (server time).

....gas stoves can be just as dangerous, if not looked after....danger is not just limited to Coleman stoves. Coleman stoves need too much maintenance for me to be bothered with.
My personal preference is with the Primus syle stove with the Butane / Propane mix gas cartridges (Propane mix ensures that it will burn as well in cold weather).....be sure to keep an eye on the rubber 'o' ring that seals against the gas cartridge....these can perish, but you can get spares for next to nothing.
....if you are struggling to find one, I'm told that Surbiton Angling Centre do them...they are a couple of quid more than Goldsworth A.C......
