Has anyone seen this months Carpworld?

There is a four page advertisement for a new flouro main line called X line. In the advert it claims:

X-Line flourocarbon guarantees:

Greater sensitivity with increased strike rate.

Invisibility

Outstanding abrasion resistance

Greater strength

Total sinkage

Further casting

Improved presentation

X-Line will improve your catch rate by up to 100%

In 15lb version it is 0.31mm which puts in between 10 & 12lb nylon.

If this line is half as good as it claims it can only be a good thing, and at £14 for 250 metres its still cheaper to buy this for hook length material than £7 for 20 metres.

Does anyone else have any views on this or thinking of buying some?

I DID USE BERKLEY VANISH AS MAIN LINE FOR 6 MOUNTHS LAST YEAR AND PERSONLY NOT USE IT AGAIN AS MAIN LINE I HAD LOADS OF LINE TWIST AND IT WAS NOT THAT ABRASIVE I FOUND THAT IT DID NOT MAKE A LOT OF DIFFRENTS FROM MY NORMAL MAIN LINE WHICH WAS DIAWA SENSOR. FOR SIX MOUNTH I USED IT ON ONE ROD AND THE RUN RATE WAS LOWER THAN THE NORMAL MONO.
I THINK I WILL STICK TO THE DIAWA STUFF FOR NOW BUT I AM TESTIN SOME SUFFIX TRITANUIM ZOOM AT THE MO IN PINK AT 13ib STRAIN WILL LET PEOPLE NO WHAT IT IS LIKE IN THE FUTURE.
THIS IS MY OWN PERSONALY THOUGHTS ON FLOURO CARBON LINES.

I would have to see more than a glossy advert to convince me to change from my trusty GR60. Never take risks mucking about trying different lines. Perhaps someone should get Gibbo to do another line comparision?

Greater sensitivity with increased strike rate.
X-Line will improve your catch rate by up to 100%

What a load of rubbish the above is. It may be a good line, but cmon do the manufacturers really expect me to belive that?? LOL

That kind of statement is a be dodgy isn't it?
Sure Trading standards would be interested if it didn't improve your catches by 100%! You can't go round claiming that.............can you?

There's a rumour in the game fishing world that the number of factories actually producing monofil lines of all types is actually quite small. Far less than the number of brands. And all you are paying for is the packaging and advertising hype. Do some of these people really think we arrived on the last banana boat from nowhere ? How can a line increase your catch rates by 100% if your presentation is poor and you're fishing in the wrong part of the lake with poor quality bait !

Apparently there is only one main manufacturer of flurocarbon in the world, kurea chemicals!
So yes Phil i think that most do think we are mugs! Oh how wrong they are.

Note the wording "Up to 100%" . They have wisely left it open to mean from 0 to 100%. Nice and cheap for hooklengths though if it is a 100% Fluorocarbon. If it isn't, it ain't worth considering. You can't beat Subterfuge for hooklengths. The only one to use.(But a bit expensive.)

Just a word of warning, I was talking to one of the guys who run my local tackle shop and he said that to get the lower diameter they have probably pre-stretched it and that if it goes any where near a snag it will part very easily. And as for using it for hook links that Vanish was only £5 for 100 metres.

I would certainly not buy any for the time being until someone like Jim Gibbinson has given it the third degree and given it the nod.

'Improve your catch rate by up to 100%'......100% of nothing is still nothing!!!! Still hasn't convinced me.

Not into fluro as a main line myself. My thought is that surely it will spook the fish more when they touch it (line bites) and they dont know what it is. Would much rather pin everything down.

Somebody i know has just started using bright YELLOW line for this verysame reason. That if the fish can see it that clearly it wont spook them as much. We at the moment are awaiting the results........looking good so far.

yes when we all went out and bought the X-line rubbish

we found it breaks well below its stated strain and casts like old tow rope

now thankfully vastly superior lines have come on the market Tiger line thank god
it breaks at the stated strain and casts quite well too
