We have seen a real fiasco in which a tiny handful of dedicated anti's were nearly able to wipe out the votes of honest anglers in the BBC poll.
The problem was that we were being honest and playing by the rules they don't care:(
What matters to them is winning the publicity campaign regardless of how this is achieved.
The lesson for ALL of us is that we must not underestimate these people They are dedicated fanatics who will stop at nothing to achieve their aims..
We must remember the price of peace is eternal vigillance

I dont believe that the angling organisations, press etc. do enough to publicise the good work done by anglers. Obvious examples being identifying and reporting pollution, large scale fish kills, the spread of algal bloom and the like. I am sure that official organisations like the Environment Agency etc benefit from this kind of feedback.

There is genuine concern for the environment, which is certainly reflected on this site by the posters, but outside of fishing there is the danger we all get portrayed as bloodthirsty hunters who not only impale fish, but purposely leave monofilament traps on the bankside, deliberately hook swans, cygnets, ducks and any other aquatic animal and ram lead weights down their throats.

Now I know there is a small minority who litter our banks with their rubbish, but the majority are infinitely more considerate. This minority must be shown the error of their ways as they just play into the anti's hands.

But surely the angling population can do something?

There: rant off my chest. I'll get my coat.
