Read TH article in the interview with Tim P.
As for the place its made up of 3 lakes. The one with the big fish in (40lb leather) is about 4-5 acres and with small dotted islands. The water is usual gin clear. When the water levels rise this lake can flood into the Island lake next door, and there are rumours that fish do move from lake to lake when this happens.
The waters are run by London AA, and you can fish on a day ticket. I've walked round in the week and there has been no one about on any of the waters. There was a 40 (?) man night membership going, although I'm not too sure if this is still happenning. The place is littered with rubbish and I certainly wouldn't feel overly comfortable fishing the place on my own. It does seem to be a walk through / gathering point for Hertfordshire's looney groups!.
If you have any joy then let me know, don't know the last time the 40 made a show, lovely fish though!
Stuart
PS: don't leave anything in you car!, it will get nicked!

the litter problem is bad but me and a couple of other lads are trying our best with this problem.
the fish was last caught at the beggining of october by simon hagger it was in carp talk a couple of weeks later its weight was 41lb 8oz .
the lake does see its fair amount of pressure from beginners to more experianced carpers alike alot of anglers come down on the off chance dont catch the big girl quickly, then head of with there tails between there legs! it is a very tricky water .ther was only 3 differant fish caught in 2001 a 17lb common once a mid twenty common 3 times and the big leather 3 times(which was unusal for this fish as it is "normally" a twice a year fish max, maybe increased pressure had something to do with this?)
the amount rumours that go around about the lakes are unbelievable last year there was the one about the fish not being in there started by dave mallin who fished all winter and spring for little return he never even saw the leather !,two weeks after he moved off saying something along the lines "i aint chasing ghosts anymore!" it was caught by a lad called jim at 42 lb .
there is also no way the fish could move between lakes naturally unless the lake rose by ten feet or so as there is quite a high bank between the island lake and the lake with the leather in not to mention a causeway of around 30 yds !
the looneys around the lake we can do nothing about as it is a park so u get all types of weirdo walking about ,one of my mates had someone sit next to his rods at 2 in the morning for five minutes before he casually walked away without saying a word !. the kids that fish down there can be a headache,on sunday i had to have a stern word with a couple of lads that had 2 pike rods out each on the leather lake then decided to go for a walk round the island lake! i reeled all 4 rods in then warned them of their future conduct .
also you are right about the car problem what most of us tend to do is park at the top of the hill then walk down .

me and a friend have been fishing there since about september and were appalled by some of the things that go on ,on what is as a whole a beautiful set of lakes so decided to do something about it (unlike most who would just sit and moan about it ) so therefore now the water is going to be a lot more tighter controlled and picked of litter on a regular basis.
cheers

Its good to see that someone cares enough about the lakes they are fishing to do something about the problems mate!

Hello carpio,

You are defiantly right about two captures of the fish, Jim Mathews, caught it back in the spring on his first night actually fishing it (lots of observation work b4 hand) and Simon Hagger in the summer, caught in first week of fishing. They are both very good mates of mine.

It is not too difficult a fish to catch, observe and learn - easy!

The only problem is where the lakes are situated, locals are a f,,,ing nightmare, cars not safe. - shame really.
