What do you reckon on maybe another carp group being started? I have been watching the press about the one group we have now and as far as I can tell the magazine is going to get smaller, the subs are going up and the only thing that I can see that we get for our membership money is the conference. Do any of you think maybe there should be another group? Is competition between groups a good thing so that there would maybe be some incentive for the groups to try to do better than each other?
Andy
I think that the C.S are doing a good job at the moment but i would welcome another group and i think competition can only be a good thing as it makes things better for us. Although it would be better if they were linked and not rivals.
just my thoughts though

Maybe you could answer a question for me then Ian. Why did the carp Society start to have troubles again when we went through all this a few years ago? I can remember one of the AGMs where there was quite a heated debate and some words were spoken about what the chaps who ran it were up to.
The system was changed and some of the organisers were replaced but now we are hearing that it has all had problems again. Oh and one other thing, why was it that certain people who were on the commitee were replaced and then not too long afterwards they were back again. These people were the ones that apparently got into trouble before so I would have thought that is was a bit odd to have them running it again.
Anyway, I wish you all the luck in the world with your job Ian. I hope you do well at it.
Andy
Ian,
am I right in thinking that the guys can read all about this in the lastest issue of CarpWorld?...(I think it's called that...£4.30 monthly!).
er.......good point Ian.....it is in fact only ONE person's opinion!

Well I hope that the Society goes from stregth to strength. I am still confused as to why when apparently the society made a nice profit from the winter conference though that the magazine is going to shrink down to 32 pages, especially as I have heard that the subs are going up a fiver a year. I cant see this helping the membership numbers as some of the chaps I know who are members have mentioned that they wont be rejoining if these changes take place.
Oh and I dont agree that you can put the ECHO group and the BCSG in the same category as the Carp Society really as the ECHO one has a membership that you have to be invited to join, and the BCSG has conditions to becoming a member. So the only group that any carp angler can join is the Carp Society.
Andy
I've only been a member of the CS for a year so I may not have joined at the best of times, but I feel that the major problem they have is with communication, I joined with the intention to attend some regional meetings, meet fellow local anglers and hopefully try to to gain access to more exclusive venues. I can only rememeber one meeting in my area (essex/East London) during that time, and that was communicated in carptalk on the day itself, a bit short notice, yet I notice other regions (Northeast etc) tend to have one a month. If there was a regularish schedule of meetings (eg quarterly etc) at least members would have an idea when one was coming up.
You should take this up with your Regional Organiser....some may not be as organised as others, but I can say that my RO, Paul Boichat, does a splendid job & organises a good bash...no complaints.
If anybody is interested there is a meeting this Friday 9th at Horsham YMCA, starting at 8pm, with a talk by Jon & Ben Hofgartner. Anyone welcome, and there is cheap beer & usually a great raffle.
Anyone wanting details I'll post them....
Simon.
I did try but I didn't get a reply, this was the East London RO,
Maybe I'll move to Surrey
Cheers
Well said Ian, nice to know things are looking up for the CS.
Personally, i've never been a member, but they do have a roll to play.
What is the CS's stance on the anti-angling issue?
That question goes out to all people involved in the fishing industry as well. For most of us, we stand to loose a hobby,
for many others it's a hobby and a livelihood!!

Oh okay Ian, I was only going by the news release on the Paul Selmans web site. Where he states that the new Carp Society magazine will only be 32 pages in size and that the membership fee will be going up a fiver a year.
I am suprised at your using losses to sum up the financial states of the magazine for the Carp Society though as surely thwe magazine is the mainstay of what members get for their fee. What I mean is that if you discount the magazine from the Carp Society memberships benefits then what is it then?
I find it a bit hard of you to say that the magazine is financially bad because basically if it were not for the magazine then I wouldnt have been a member for all the years that I have been. If the magazine was cut down to a small one which others are saying it is then you cant really justify to the membership that it is the magazine that is pulling the finances down can you?
There must be other financial issues that are relevant too. It cant be just the magazine that causes these problems can it?
I have been a member for a long time now and I have watched as the situation has been good for the group and sometimes has been bad for the group. I am not talking about the people who are running it now either but about ones that have run it in the past and maybe now it is having an effect from past occurrences.
Anyway as I said before, I wish you all the best with it and I hope that in the future the Society can live up to what the membership wants in a carp group.
Andy
I reckon it would be a great idea for the E.C.H.O to start a magazine up. With so many top anglers backing them, they could make a great magazine and also make more money to put into it.
Keep it real E.C.H.O
I have only been a member of the carp society for a year and I owe a lot to the guys of the C.S they showed me a lot of things about carp fishing which I had no idea about with some great advice from people like Bill Ward and Tim the brithish champion with out their advice I would have given up all hope by now and given up fishing.
I would be intrested if another group started up depending on the costs and what they can offer to the people.
Alex.
