View Full Version : Marmite
Has anyone used marmite as a boillie additive/dip etc as i hird it was good because of the salt and yeast plus it will really stick the bolie and take a while to wash of once in the water.
Just a thought
Sam
I used it a few years ago, adding a couple of spoon fulls to a bag of mixers and then pouring boiling water on them,It worked a treat I took a few (which is more than anyone else did) on a water where everyone else was using plain mixers.
Treacle and Syrup worked well aswell /images/forum/icons/cool.gif

MMmmmmmmmmm Marmite on Toast - are you an advocate of the spread it all over technique (need a good cuppa to rinse with though) or are you from the school of thought which says."hey...I'm not gonna spread it really thickly all over..I'm gonna let that anchor butter soften my toast & then spread a thin, but equally tasty, layer of marmite over that succulent piece of thick cut Warburtons." ?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Horrible!!!!!
Sam
one way of using it as an attractor - get a large close-end swimfeeder, and tape up all but the end holes (still being able to open the lid).
take your marmite/vegemite and mix it in with a bit of boiling water, until it is quite runny. using a bit of sponge of foam, soak up a load of the runny marmite and put the sponge in the swimfeeder.
cast out, and the warm runny marmite will react with the colder water and rise, sending a column of marmite smell through the water. when the fish go down to investigate, the only food there is your hookbait.

but what about on toast?
Nice idea bazza but how can the liquid get out if all the holes are taped up?

oops, just re-read your post bazza and read about not taping up the top holes.
I think i'm going mad anyway

I think the toast would go soggy Bazza lol
Andy
by taping up MOST of the holes, it lets the oozy goodness out slowly. you could alternatively fill up the taped swimfeeder with marmite straight from the jar. same principles...
If I was a fish and see that I would swim a mile, The sponge method in a feeder is good though, been using that for a while too, what the hell is wrong with flake dipped in honey?
Tony
Try Bovril, had a few results on it./images/forum/icons/crazy.gif
It's also better on toast that marmite, and you can also make a hot drink out of it if you are having that blanking feeling on a cold night./images/forum/icons/crazy.gif
Baz
I keep seeing this word "BLANK" what does it mean? I haven't blanked whilst fishing for years, but then again I don't dedicatedly fish for one species /images/forum/icons/smile.gif
Tony
salt has to be the most underrated ingredient of any bait...

any of you chaps
used or toyed with the idea of
peanut butter,nuttela etc
as a dip?
nice on toast also!
They might be quite good because of the consistancy of them - making them stay on for longer.
Nutella on toast - disgusting!
Sam
Anything with a high protein content will work, peanuts, beef, the list goes on....... Keep checking those labels in Tesco's for new ideas... I have a few very high protein baits I make up that will make boilies look like ping pong balls to carp... keep it natural /images/forum/icons/smile.gif
Tony
Bazza, mentioned salt as being good someone else has rated this as being good, what do all think, and at what levels?

All animals need a certain amount of salt to survive so it will be a good bait on occasion if there is a lack of salt in the natural food scourse of the water. Fish need more than anything protein and vitamins to survive so baits conating these will be a good bait.... maybe a little added salt will enhance the bait.
