Any chance I can get some info?

Looking to get a new set of 2.5lbtc rods with through action for range upto 150 yards. Interested in the Shimano Techniums or the Tribals not a big price difference.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

I'm sure I'll not be the first to point out that "2.5lb through action", and "range up to 150 yards" - is somewhat of a oxymoron.

I'm not being facetious - but have you ever seen 150 yards paced / measured out on a playing field? It's a freakin' long way!

Fair enough maybe the range is a little ambitious not for a single bait I actually meant 3.5 TC And I do see your point.

By action I really want something that will get me the distance I need but have a forgiving action to play fish under the net

If that makes any sense my question still stands any commebts on rod choice.

Most of my fishing is done at around 80yards however the fish show further out when pressured so would like to get a bit further. I am aware of how far 150 yards is all to well rugby fitness has started and I am still recovering but yes it is surprising how far it is when you pace it out.

Lesson appreciated and yes just a little facetious but taken as it was meant !!!!!

have a look at the B2 3lb. Was a bit to powerfull for what i need but reckon it would fit your needs lovely. Same sort of money, £159.

Re golf clubs, only kiding, i would not hit 150 yards with one of those either! http://www.cemexangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

By the way I have a set of ultegra xt 14000s loaded with braid and they take upto 600yard of line they help to get a bit extra.

Anyone seen the advert for PVA on carp mags 206 yards with loaded pva bag record at recent comp thats casting and a half.

That rod must be ready for a snap after that.

Just out of interest the old rule used to be that the rod determined with adequate tequnique. Am I right in saying that modern theroy is that the reel with proper spooling is the key to distance ?

No doubt that recent advances in both rods and reels have put yards on to average distance.

You need to find what 'feels' right for you, ultegras are a good starting point!

The real key is ability through practise, i will probably never hit 150 yards, however a bit of time on the local playing field has got me over the 100 mark now every time i need to.

As for the cast you refered to with the pva bag, that geezer must have had a box of weetabix prior to tale off!

Like to point out that I am not a tackle tart managed to pick up 3 ultegras for £90 off a mate who was giving up. I have Greys prodigy at the moment to go with them top rod. Had them for a few years fancy a change. I will keep them as my all round back up rods for smaller waters.

Those B2s look sexy (I need to get out more lol) or is it just the cunning photography and marketting.

techniums are good rods but not a through action there prety fast mate alos to get 150 yds out of a 2.5 tc your gonna need fast taper and have to be a very good caster
fat bot slims or ngs would give you the action but not that sort of distance

To cast 150 yards with a though action rod will require a progressive build up of power to compress the rod fully so you looking at a pendulum style cast, does your venue have the room in it's swims to wind one up as most dont. If you dont have tha room and have to cast overhead you may be better off with 13ft rods, again room behind you in the swim permitting, consider all your options before buying and try a few if possible as mistakes cost, personaly if I were you I would speak to Nick Buss as he is a custom builder and has a few rods and blanks you may even be able to try before you buy and could be cheaper than off the shelf stuff.

They look even beter on the bank than in the ad! Should point out that i got myself all confused ( was the shock of parting with all that money for a set of rods! http://www.cemexangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif) The rods i went for are actually the B1 (not B2) MR.

Goose mate looks like you payed attention in physics. Yeah there is plenty of room so pendulum cast is the best option. I practice on a field near me dont like disturbing the water I fish too much. I can reach about 120/130 but without the accurracy I want. I have done a fair bit of beach casting but dont want to use 5oz lead and 10 pound line My water has a minimum of 15pound line. I only use a 3oz lead seems to me the harder you try to cast the less distance you get. When you nail it it seems very smooth.

like goose says have a word with nick buss i have century fs's off him in 3lb and 3.5lb i can cast them both 150yds with 15lb line and with an overhead cast and they work out a lot cheaper than factory built ones and they look a lot better as well. they both are excellent for playing fish evan under the rod tip although i prefer the 3lb rods i now use the 3.5,s for france
