I'm after a set up for my 13 year old lad.
2 rods, 2 reels, alarms, mat, net, shelter (not bivvy), chair etc, all the usual stuff..
I don't want to spend fortunes. If he gets into it, he can buy his own stuff when he gets older (and richer).
Any ideas for good quality cheap gear?
by some carp mags and theres some great deals in there mate god im sure i have met you http://www.cemexangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

He's got a match rod and feeder rod I gave him last year.
He lives with his mum (enough said on that) but every summer he comes to me for three weeks or so for the summer hols.
We will do two or three, two-three night sessions each summer for sure. Father son bonding thing? Regardless, we love it..
In the past, I have fished with three rods and its been a case of "that's your rod there on the right, if we catch fish with it, it'll be yours" in reality of course, because of the dangers of night fishing and the magnetic influence of water and small boys that seems to bring them together with a splash at every opportunity, I deal with all runs, casting etc.
Therefore, I have used my own gear and thats not a problem.
But now I feel he is ready for his own.

Was thinking more of a cheap half shelter anyway. I got mine for about £15 from a show.

Some of those deals look too good to be true, thats the issue!
£100 all in?
Look out for the Wychwood rod and reel deals, really cheap stuff. Fox Micron M's, some Fox bobbins, 4 cheap banksticks. JRC luggage is cheap, and get him a cheap brolly http://www.cemexangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif Maybe second hand stuff? You can pick up some really good deals http://www.cemexangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Heard good stuff about this wychwood stuff today - has anyone got any?
Any online reviews about?
Have you considered the several local second hand tackle shops or maybe the for sale section on this website ???. In terms of good lo cost tackle well rod there are Fox and shimano who do good low cost rods £35.00 each. Reels Diawa 4050 are going for around £30.00 each Okuma have some good bait runners for the same cost. Ron thompson bite alarms. Etc Etc.

Problem I have is that I bought most of my geer in the late 90's, shimano GT's, Daiwa rods.. I havent bought a carp rod in 7 years!
No idea whats vogue..
Will go and take a look at Ash thouhg, had a pm with good reports..
Professorpool fishing tackle is about whats right for you shurley not whats in vogue, But hey tackle I find is a very exspencive and personnal thing whats right for some is not for others. Its a shame you did not post earler in June ther was the Farnhan Angling car boot sale ther was a lot of very very good bargains there. But isnt that always the way. Good luck with your hunt for tackle.
PS I have a pair of immaculate Diawa 4050 bait runner type reels if you are interested they have been recently spooled up with 12Lb Fox soft steel, These were my son's he has recently upgraded to Shimano Gt8010's so they are no longer needed.

Totally agree Gemo, the carp can't see the bank end of my gear and don't seem to mind anyway!
I got a full set up for about £60 from Costco.
2 baitrunners, 2 carp rods, holdall, bag, 2 alarms, bankstick set thingy, and some bits and pieces for rigs etc. Dont know if they still stock it but seen loads of people selling seperately on e-bay. I think Argos sell something simular. Its not brilliant quality but a starting point and Im sure it will be fine for a 13 yr old starting out.

TFG mate, they do set ups and the intruder rods in 2.5tc are very forgiving under the tip.

As for the matt hayes stuff being rubbish daytimedave, sorry mate but for beginners, people who fish once a month or so and kids it's perfect, guaranteed for life and if he gets bored, the outlay is so low you'll get most of your money back. I've used the intruders in 2.5 and they're spot on for the money.
Let him use yours and don't fish yourself......................no outlay and you can keep a proper eye on what he's doing. It also removes the element of competition and teaches him to value each fish for its own sake (and ensures that he won;t do better than you!).

Plan all sorted now..
Plan, for next weeks 3 day session on the thames is to let the binlids fish the feeder for the large bream and possibly barbel or chub til around midnight then chill out, meanwhile, I will have 3 rods out that "belong to all of us".
I'll just nail it down that he really really is in to fishing and then see how it goes from there.
On another note, looking at the Fox Warriors as a second rig for myself, what do people think?
Also, a pair of additional reels - what recomoendations for around £50 each do peoples have?
There are som many, I'm getting confused!
