I have just invested in a set of these reels as replacements for my tired old Shimano 8010's. I have used the line clips on the shimano's for years to clip up my distances when casting to marks. I was wondering if anyone out there has used the Maximisers and if so are the line clips as line friendly as the ones on my old shimano's?. I would hate to find out the hard way.

Pony mate. Put a small piece of power gum in the clip then use as normal, sorted

Looked at them today and they look OK but to be honest it wouldn't be hard to drill the spool and make your own decent clip.

I wouldn't have a clue where to start with making my own clips !. I have stripped some of the line off and placed a doubled up piece of pole elastic under the clip. I have then wound the line back on over the excess elastic. It seems more forgiving than power gum. I also took the clips off and gave them a very fine sanding around the edge to smooth them out a bit as the plastic was very rough.

The reels got their first trial run yesterday. I found it a little strange not using a baitrunner, but I soon got used to slacking off the clutch. The line clips where very harsh (before the pole elastic was added). However a top result my second 30lb common in a week and the reel performed perfectly. For the money I really can't fault them (line clip excluded).

Cheers mate. I bought the maximisers as I have been struggling to reach some areas of the lake. I used 8010 shimanos and struggled. I thought I may not like the feel of the big pit style reels and didn't want to spend alot of money on them just incase. After speaking to few people it appeared that these reels fitted the bill. Some people have got rid of more expensive reels to get these as the line lay is so good. However the line clips really let them down, but for £49.99 each you can't complain. I have now got some of the Bob roberts line clip thingys to put on them so hopefully all will now be well.

Have you tried the Jim Gibbinson trick for your clips?
Whe first loading the spool, clip a short length powergum under the clip, then wind your line onto the spool over the gum. When you want to clip up, pull the gum grom the clip, tuck the line under it, and clip the gum back in again - presto, damage free clipping up even with the worst spoolclips ever!

No I havn't tried that trick yet. I have tried the Bob roberts clip things which are a similar idea. Unfortunatley they are not very strong and one broke on the first attempt. I have now put some power gum under the clips to soften the blow. I will however be trying your idea it sounds like it will work. Thanks
