Ian,
Just a thought, I have noticed on another fishing discussion forum that they have gatherings from time to time for all the users on the forum to meet and go fishing. Therefore would this be a good idea maybe for RMC to try and organise one for users of this forum to attend as i am sure that a lot of people on this forum would be delighted to put faces to names and also exchange tactics on the bank aswell as on the Net.
Don't know weather this would be a good idea or not, just a thought, does anyone else like the idea?

Cheers

Hmmmm I like bream fishing. Does anyone know how to go about trying for them in the winter?? Like tackle, line, etc etc??

scorpio
29-01-2001, 19:50
Maggot feeder has always worked for me in winter. If that don't work redworm & caster. Either on the tip or buzzer, the tip is better to hit the bites though. I use 6lb line & a 4lb hooklink for the bream, 20 - 12 hook but usually a 12. and an avon rod. Just don't go to heavy on the strike and set the drag.

If I could be so bold as to maybe make a suggestion. As I mentioned back on about page three we are going to require more space. Almost too much interest!!!
Perhaps what we should do is pair off the younger guys with someone with a bit more experience. I don't mean as in they don't know what there doing, but in that it will make more room. Also they will be able to satisfy any worried parents that they are with a (and I use this term very, very lightly) responsible adult at all times. The young'uns will probably fish the old boys off the place anyway. But I know that if when I was 14,15,16 or whatever and I had had the oppurtunity to fish with some of the anglers that are going to be present I would have jumped at it. Let alone sharing a swim and there for tea, tackle, ideas etc........blimey.
So lets find out how many under 18's are coming and ask them to very nicely enquire to the rest of us slighty older chaps about doubling up. Try and organise it before the day arrives if you see what I mean.
Come on chaps lets put something back in the sport that has given us all so much pleasure.

Waiting for a slagging!!
Yours

Likewise if any of you young'uns want to show me how its done just send me a private e-mail and then we can discuss our tactics, bait, etc....and get all organised for our assault on Kingsmead well before hand!! Maybe even do a short over night session somewhere before hand at one of my waters (secret one maybe stuffed full of Leney's). Then if you catch more than me on that occasion I can drown you and pick a new partner!!! /images/forum/icons/laugh.gif

Well I like the idea but I'm not one for swim sharing I'm afraid because my bivvy is massive so it takes a lot of space in my swim and I like to keep things nice and tidy in my swim I don't want to trip over some one else's gear in the middle of the night and I like to keep things quite in both keeping secrets and the noise level but if I really have to I will because I don't to miss this one.
Alex.
PS.every one please take count to what I said about noise because I like peoeple to be quite when I'm surface fishing and try and avoid my swim its not that I want to be isolated but I just like to concentrate. /images/forum/icons/smile.gif

I think it's fantastic that yourself and the likes of Mr Shelley are willing to help these lads.

I used to work in a big tackle shop from the age of 13 to about 17, I even ran the carp counter for a couple of years.

I met all the greats from the match legends to carp legends and I mean legends.

It gave me something to aspire to in my angling career, I have the utmost respect for pioneering anglers like yourself who are willing to share their secrets (well some of them anyway) and give time to the youngger angler.

Long live the self appreciation society!

There is obviously going to be a bit of noise as such as we have not met each other yet etc. As for the swim sharing thing........ buy a smaller Bivvy

looks like a few people are interested. good luck to all of you. not sure if i will fish, the pressure will make all the carp swim up the stream to wraysbury 2!! for those that havent fished, or seen the water, good luck!! you aint seen nothing yet!

im sure a few will be out, over the past few years i have heard it all. most anglers give it the biggun for a couple of months, catch one or two fish then lose heart when it gets tough.

this will be a good experiment to see how it responds to a lot of bait and a lot of lines. most of the time we backlead, cos the fish dont like line. big beds of bait may work after a few days on the spot. i havent bagged over heaps of bait though. pva bags and stringers do most of the damage. on the right spot of course!

the weed shouldnt be a problem. unlike local pikey kids. be warned, there are hundreds of them!

fish well and some of you will catch. enjoy yourselves and kiddies, dont fall in! dogs on leads and no fireworks after 11pm. none of that white cider appleade stuff either. unless its with special brew!

so who wants some insider information on the venue then?

you do? good, talk to bazza!!

definitely 77 fishers green stockies put in a couple of months back between 8-13lb with sixty of those above 10lb.

other than that it is difficult to put a number on due to the escapees last year. having said that, alan welch alone returned sixty odd fish to mead 1 from the big side.

if i had to put a number, i would guess a couple of hundred of the original stockings plus the latest 77.

oh yeah, and the dozen originals...

Thats a good idea but i thinks its nice to have some competativeness in you at such events not as to ignore others and to get on with your own thing but to make it more fun.
im all up for donatting some money to charity. but at my age any item of tackle you can get free which you otherwise wouldnt have been able to afford sounds brilliant

I dont think the idea of prizes will be good as there will be competion in the air and we wont be able to chill and socialise as much. And people might like to walk about to meet some of the people who are going.

You youngsters seem to have far to much pocket money these days and you want prizes as well.

Yappi
11-02-2001, 16:07
I suppose a competition will take the fun out a bit because everybody will be concentrating on catching instead of just enjoying the company. I know, what about a prize for blanking? Just a thought !
Lofte, im very shocked by your comment on smuggling a pint or 2 and I don't even think you should be going with that attitude!

Yappi

HI lofte
hope you got the private message.
r u doubling up with anyone on k1 , i am still in the single stakes.
I have yet to have these any of these carp out but as it it my first season on the lake i dont expect anything just yet, all comes to those who wait but i have seen them of the bridge. I saw one fish last year it was well into the thrity bracket , it was very light in colour but covered in protective slim it looked like it had a blue haze around it where it had not been handled for years. , it was with a group of six other fish but they only look up to the mid twenty mark this fish was far greater . the bloke that i fish with has seen large commons , he missed one on a floater, the line had driffeted in the breeze so he struck into slack line what a fool.in five years time this lake is going to hold some very nice fish. How big is the largest orginal mirror the common goes to thirty but no one wants to say.
Keep it british

see you at the social.(with my crash helmet on...)

scorpio,

do you think that drawing for swims is a good idea? i think it is the fairest way considering the number of people in attendance. most are new to the lake, so this shouldn't make much difference to peoples fishing. there will be enough regulars wandering the banks to give advice about swims should anyone want it...

given that the lake is being closed for the weekend, i would have thought if anyone is down on the thursday (or before) they should be treated as a normal punter, and asked to pack up in preparation for the weekend. they then take part in the draw along with everyone else, and set up in their drawn swim.

this eliminates any advantages those familiar with the lake would have over those more unfamiliar. it also dissipates any friction which may be there, from a competitive perspective (it will happen)...

this *should* be a social first, and fishing second, regardless of the names participating.

bazza

scorpio
15-02-2001, 07:51
To be honest Baz I think the lake should be pegged out and the swims drawn prior to the Saturday... the only problem I can see with that is people not turning up..... I suppose as well the method you suggest will be good at getting peoples names to faces etc.... If there are any crap carp swims but they are good for the bream I will have it mate /images/forum/icons/smile.gif
