View Full Version : Day ticket trip!!
In the new year, and when I get a bigger car(!) I`m planning on a couple of days fishing to another water with my friend "Simpson".We need a venue that is easy to find,day/session ticket (obviously!) and the chance of a few fish, facilities! We will be travelling from N. Wales so the closer the better!

you could try wyreside fisheries up near blackpool.fish up to nearly 40lb.there are two lakes and one is meant to be fairly(term used loosely)easy.

Burghfield match lake and blue pool are on the M4 near Reading, click here for info <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/special_venues/burghfield_match_lake.phtml>Match Lake</A>

Welford Pools or Shimano Linear. Just North of Swindon M4. Both well kept and easy (ish).
Welford has a good Tackel shop on site with all you need. Including barrows to get your gear to your swim. 2 lakes "Top Lakel" and "Specimine Lake" Both £14 for a 24 hour 2 Rods. See October 2000 Total Carp or phone 01285 713649 for details. Between Lechlade and Fairford on the A417.
Shimano Linear. A bit nearer Oxford this one. between Hardwick and Stanton Harcourt on the B4449. Again 2 rods for a 24 is £14 choice of 5 lakes all top notch. Manor Farm, St Johns and Hunts Corner to name three. Visit their web site for further details: www. linearfisheries.co.uk
Fished both these venues in the last month and blanked gloriously both times, but well impressed with both. More trips arranged for the new year.
Complements of the season and best wishes.
Martin.

Being a regular on Whelford, I would have to agree that the facilities there are first class. Everything you need for a long session.
My only hesitation would be suggesting that you will bag up, because I no longer classify Whelford (either lake) as relatively easy. If you know the water and know which baits to fish (and where) then you can catch regularly, but I often see newcomers blank and get disenchanted. 750 doubles in 3 acres sounds like the place MUST be easy, but I can assure you that if you go with that attitude your indicators will not move!.
Don't be convinced by the article in Total Carp. The guy had the place to himself and was casting all over the lake to bubblers. Not something you can do on a busy weekend, and boy does it get busy!
Still, be different in your approach and you can reap the rewards.
Good luck
Chris
We`ll keep the above suggestions in mind, meanwhile, cheers!!

Same goes for St Johns, somewhere between 900 and 1200 fish in there, depending on whther you speak to Roy or Len.
You stand there, look at the lake and think, where the hell are they!
