View Full Version : IE5 help
Nothing to do with fishing or this site but I have a minor problem with IE5, I used to have RMC angling website as my homepage but installed the blueyonder package and since then when going into internet options don't have the option of changing my homepage as that sectio although is still there is not clickable, any ideas on how to change this?
Another problem I have is that for some reason I lost my graphics card off the task bar and couldn't get all the colours/resolution etc.... I reinstalled the drivers and it was okay but now all the windows and the text has shrunk, I am using exactly the same settings as I had before, same font size etc,.
Any help appreciated.
Tony,
Try THIS. A box will pop up asking if you want to make RMC angling your homepage - click yes and it should be done.
If this dosent work then BlueYonder have totally disabled the changing homepage function - which wouldn't surprise me. Try to steer clear of ISP's installation disks if possible as this is what they will do to you.
Let me know if it works so I can remove it from the server.
Tom
With your display problem, if you close all your windows down then right click on your background you should be able to select properties from the menu. Alternatively click on the Start icon, select settings, control panel and then click on Display.
This should bring up the display properties window, click the settings tab and you can change size of fonts/colors/windows etc and check your display drivers.
Cheers,
Si.
If you have windows 98 or later, you can now get a free download of IE6 from Microsoft or CNET downloads.
It didn't work tom..... I still have Blueyonder as my homepage, I am going to mail them and ask them why.
What I have done now is installed IE6 and still can't change the homepage...... One thing I didn't mention was I received a mail from someone which was let's say a bit dodgy, not a virus but it had some contenet in it that I was not interested in, I mailed this person and she said she didn't send it. Since then I have had these problems.
As for the text size I have tried all that in options and the text in all my applications is was too small, this includes, word, works, ie6, oe6 etc. If I try to change the font size the rest of the fonts go huge as do the icons on the task bar at the bottom of the screen but the text in the windows in the applications remain small as do the windows themselves....
Pheww.... any help appreciated.
Good luck with Blueyonder - I have had quite a bit of fun trying to get in touch with them. Expect at least 20 minutes queing on the phone.
You should be able to restore the homepage setting option by editing the registry as follows:
Some ISP's provide a customized version of IE. One of the customizations they might make is to disable the ability to change the home page, so that you are forced to use their home page. You can re-enable this by making a small change in the Windows registry.
Goto Start>Run and type Regedit
In Regedit, navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Control Panel
In the right-hand pane, right-click the "HomePage" value, then select Modify. Change it to: 00 00 00 00
When you reboot, you should be able to change the home page again.
Editing the registry can screw your computer up totally if you fiddle with or change the wrong things - if you follow the above instructions you should be fine but any editing of the registry could potentialy harm the Operating System - you have been warned!
As for the text - have you got a mouse with a roller wheel thingy? If you have hold down Control [Ctrl] and move the wheel downwards - this will alter the display size in ie and possibly in other windoze applications.
Hope this helps,
Tom

When you get the answer to why Tom is still 'New' at nearly 200 posts, then perhaps I'll know why I'm also still 'New' at 100.

Nice one Tom :) Always handy to have some new PC tips!
Another way to change the text size in IE is click on view at top of browser and scroll down to text size.
