View Full Version : Abbotts Lake
Thanks for the reply, I thought that the other anglers on there may be a bit Cagey hence the lack of posts, What size were the 2 fish you had and is fishing actually allowed on this Nelsons Lake?
Bovis.
I'm interested you mention Nelson's. I spoke to one of the baliffs at another water (can't remember which) saying I wanted to try for some big bream. He said a lot of the carp boys were picking up large bream and quite regularly from Nelson's, is that true?, and if so what are they caught on
when u say make a swim does that mean that i would be able to trim a space in the trees for casting because i went there today for a look and it seems well over grown
Hi Bovis, You are right in thinking that some of the anglers on Abbott's are cagey but don't let this put you off, it is a lovely venue and there are some great carp to be had out of it if you are willing to put the time and effort into it.
As the other guy's have said Nelson's is a bit of a no no and although there are a couple of nice fish in it I would concentrate on the main venue if I was you.
There are about 6 fish over 30lb and a good head of fish over 20, of which alot are over 25lb, if you want any moree info then contact me by e-mail or private message.
P.S when are you thinking of looking around?
All the best

do you know of whats been caught at nelsons within the past year.any info would be appreciated
Just spent the weekend down on the lake, the water is about 3 foot above normal level the only swims which are fishable are the birthday swim and the carpark swim all others around that area are flooded out. South side of the lake is mainly under about 1/2 foot of water. I fished the birthday, had a tench for my troubles /images/forum/icons/smile.gif, no sightings of any fish /images/forum/icons/frown.gif.
Ian alot of gardening has been done on the south bank (a414 side) with alot of trees and bushes being cut down. It now looks very open and quite unsightly, any reasons for this being done? I heard it was to aid the boaters something about the wind being able to now blow harder along the lake./images/forum/icons/crazy.gifMaybe if this is correct they can now go slow instead of very slow/images/forum/icons/smile.gif lol.

Was anybody else down there fishing? Coper, Nobby, Martin...etc..etc..
Have you fished it all year, as i don't think we have met??
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
Hi Paulm,
I'm pretty sure i was the only one on abbotts, a couple of people were fishing the other lakes though. Yes i have been down there all year but only on about 7-8 occasions (when er indors/work lets me). No i don't think we have met.
Hi i'm Baz /images/forum/icons/smile.gif lol, how long u been fishing there? Had any good fish out? Fishing it next year?/images/forum/icons/tongue.gif
Baz/images/forum/icons/crazy.gif
Yes mate i'll be there next year, only a couple more i want to catch (had the rest). Been fishing the complex for about 5 years now, not all on the big lake. As for have i had any decent fish out, put it this way - opening week i had over 25 carp, what do you think??
Are you down there next weekend?
How many seasons u been fishing it?
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
1st season, with 25 fish in one session i would say that you think it's an easy lake. lol
I've had 2 fish so far one was a thirty though/images/forum/icons/cool.gif
Next time i will be down there will be in a couple of weeks.
Any chance of a few pointers to help me out or maybe a map of the lake showning all the hot spots, lol,
I feel the sticks is one of the more productive swims though/images/forum/icons/wink.gif
Baz
I think i know who u are! You took your 30 from what you call the sticks. The swim is actualy known as the 'Point'
If i remember rightly your 30 had a cut in its tail?? what was the fishies exact weight? (i like to keep an eye on there weight gain/loss)
Every swim can be productive...you've just got to learn where to place your bait - and that comes with time!!
Next time your up there, ill pop down for a chat and a cuppa - if u want.
ps...25 fish was just the begining.

Paul,
Caught any of the large tench or bream that apparently reside in venue?
skelly
Certainly have - too many for my liking, if you know what i mean.
I've had some nights were a shoal have moved onto my bait and wiped all for rods out, all night long - resulting in over 25 tench.
As for the bream had a few when i started fishing there. This season though i havn't had one yet - 'thank god'.
Im not saying that i don't like them, but i like to catch what im targeting. Also they are not much fun on heavy gear.
Paulm /images/forum/icons/wink.gif
That's me. The fish was 30.04 I heard Martin (balif?) had it at high 28's about 6/7 weeks after i had it. Next trip down should be in about 3-4 weeks.
Baz
Just wonded as i had it season before at 32lb.
Have you seen Martin at all this winter?
