View Full Version : Wraysbury
Orite guys, i've just been reading "ADVANCED CARP FISHING", the section on wraysbury, and was just wondering if anyone had heard anything on 'Olive'. I was told a while ago that people thought this fish would go 50lb plus!?!? any thoughts?? Had a walk round yesterday, only one person fishing, well tempted to get a ticket now its been vacated by a lot of anglers.
Keep it real!!

great shame if she has but, i also like to think that the myths are still in these waters that we fish, it help to keep it all alive, think she has gone through, the other thread seems to put all the fish in place.

she hasn't been seen for about 4-5 years, gone to big lake in the sky. if you want to know what olive looked like you need to borrow a copy of the video carp, carp, carp by Chris Ball. He had her in 87? at 36lb

horse your probably getting confused. The video is split into two halfs, first half is fox pool and i think the last fish was Jack? at 41 by Terry Dempsey then the second half of the video is Wraysbury
The leather and olive were the same fish, or i was led to believe?

you mean fox pool the book, i'll have a look tonight when i get home, let ya know
Dave Lane refers to Olive and 'the leather' as two different fish in his book....but I do believe the 36 Chris Ball had was indeed later known as Olive...????
I think it should be left like this for now, a bit of mystery, no-one really knowing.
Think back to the Horton original that came out last year, everyone thought it was dead as no-one had seen it in Horton for over 10 years.

Well, we couldn't really ask for any greater authority could we?!!
A lovely thought that either fish might still be in there...when you look at the expanse of W1 it's quite easy to believe something just could hide away for years and years...but then these fish did get seen fairly regularly by all accounts. Crispy, do you mean the Crayfish (or was it boat) pool fish that Gary Harrow had? Amazing eh? Unbelievable that a fish that size can hide away in a lake that small! Nice to know that these monster myths sometimes...just sometimes prove to be real.
I'm keeping the faith.
No i think Crispy was referring to the mirror that Rob Kirby caught from the Church lake. It weighed 22lb 'ish and hadn't been caught or even seen for 10 yrs, basically since the stocking from Longfield.
Hope this helps

cash,it even funny about lumpy in crayfish pool, with a water so small.they must have seen it all the time but nothing was ever written about the fish that was seen but not caught.
Lumpy was always there as Eric says. I think with wraysbury, the big old fish, the Leather and Olive have gone to the pond in the sky. In Dave Lane book he writes of seeing olive and the leather a few times, until the sighting stopped. Its sad, but I think they have sadly departed us!
As Steve Alcott said on this site on one post. The Myths and legends of years gone by are no more.
I hope we are wrong though!
Cheers
Anyone got any news on how its fishin at the moment? conditions have been pukka recently, thought something might have been out.
Keep it real!!
