Hi,

I have been told by many different peole that that rod is the best but other people say that rod is the best. I have been looking at rods trying to work out the best but could not come to a conclusion. So what do other people think is the best rod?

You can't define a best rod as there are so many different fishing situations you use a rod for.... long distance, margin fishing etc. The best rod is the one you feel hapiest using for the situation you are in.

Infinity X, 2 3/4 TC - oh my god what a rod.
Paired up with some big pit reels they cast like a dream and play like a baby!! (sorry back to reality??)
Look around and you can get some good prices and it is worth the money

I am at present using a pair of Shimano Twinpower eleven foot, one and three quarter rods. They coped with all my smaller water fishing up to eighty yards or so brilliantly over the last two years. Whats more it is brilliant fun playing big fish on these rods. The thirty I had last year didnt half make the rod bend, excellent. I wont say that they are the best rods though as I agree with the above that you need different rods for different situations and besides I havent tried every rod that there is either lol.

Hi,

What do you think of the harrision ballitsa rods because i am looking for a rod for fishing.

I am looking for a rod that can fish up to 140 yards and can whack a big pva bag a long way. but also can play the fish well. Any of you got any surggestions?

James,

If your looking for a rod for hitting the horizon, then have a look at the Eclipse or Frontier range from Simpson of turnford. The rods are built by Jim Gibson and boy do they cast. (with the right reel).
I personaly use the 3 1/4lb tc Eclipse. Though they don't come cheap £225 each. But if you are intrested let me know because i can get them cheaper than that.
Also hear that the infinitys are pretty good aswell

Check who makes the blank, many of the rods you can buy of the shelf are made by the same manufactuer,
If you are interested in Harrison have a look at their web site.

arbitrators, 12' 2 3/4

the 'horton' rod as tony calls it.

used them for the past 2 seasons, they punch the baits out and plop them in the margins good enough. if its casting you want, you should see dave vigurs in action with these.

tony does a cat range that a few anglers i know have put through the paces. mr maris, any comments?

good response, nice finish etc etc. its all horses for courses really.

I use Bruce Ashby Mirages in 12ft 2.5LB Test curve.
superb for playing fish. brilliant under the tip for margins, Nice burgandy finish. And compress it right and you could hit 120+ no problem.
Brilliant all round rod with a backbone if needed.
and won`t break the bank at 145 a peice.

Keep it real

I would also recommend the Arbitrators. One awesome set of rods. Tony also has a hand in the making of Harrisons, he's by far one of the countries most talented rod builders. If you want a well made rod, not made from cheap commercial blanks which carry a high price tag speak to Tony.
But again it's all down to personal choice.

Made in England.

I thought that I was the only one who owned a Shimano Twin Power 1.75lb 11ft!!...I've never seen another on the bank!
A great rod for margin and mid range.......it bends in an alarming manner with a 20lb'er on!......GREAT.

My fav. for that now is discontinued,a Bob James specialist 2lb test.....a great action but the reel seat suit centrepins more than baitrunners!
James,...there are SOOoooo many bargins out there so it's all down to choice and price. For £100 you can get a good rod and don't worry about 140 yards yet!.....you wont need that at Yateley without fishing in the woods on the other side!
See you sunday,

You saying that about Yateley reminded me of a session when I was there. I was fishing a swim on the match lake right tight in the margins and just as it got dark someone cast across into my margins. I had to flash my torch at him and tell him to stop. He didnt know i was there though as my bivvy was in a blackberry bush and hidden so well that even i couldnt find it some of the time. lol

I recon the infinities are the best,
mine are 23/4 tc and cast like a dream, even with the smaller reels. they are also progressive enough to put in the margins.
if you look in the papers i have seen loads of these going fairly cheaply second hand as well
whatever you do, choose a rod that suits your casting style as a £300 rod may be good in the hands of some, in others it won't cast very far.

james,
Many of the above mentioned rods are made on Harrison blanks.
A good rod should fit the person, rod length,tc, length of rod handle are all important and a good rod maker will take this into account.
Check out the Harrison Rods Site Here If you dont know a good bespoked rodmaker come back to me on my e-mail address.
They dont all cost a fortune.
