I bought puff pastry by mistake instead of shortcrust, I then added stilton, mature cheddar, and some parmesan. These I then put through the blender and then kneaded, together.Ithen placed some forest berry glug in polythene bag and popped the lot in the freezer.take out allow to thaw, and the glug(entirely your own choice,)is drawn in.
Dont know if shortcrust works better but puff works.
I have also found that the longer it is left the smellier it gets & the better it works, last chub caught was my personal best,
not a monster by any standard but at 3lb 6oz the 2 year wait
was worth it.Just wish I'd used paste earlier.

Best of luck paulh

I don't bother with the pastry thing. I just use cheese on it's own. Stilton normally or double gloucester in the summer. If it's chub you are after they aint all that fussy to be honest. Simplicity is the key.

Granted
But the on the river I fish there are some fairly big carp mainly nomadic,so by using a paste with a bit more appeal, I may tempt one of these. Well thats my reasoning, and it gives me confidence in a bait that I've made myself when I catch on it.
cheers paul

Hi Paul,

Here's how I do it...

Wet a few slices of stale (5 or so days old) bread. Mash it up and drain off excess water. Mix with Danish Blue Cheese (or other soft cheese). Add a tablespoon of garlic granules and tumeric (for colour mainly). If the mix is too soft, just add plain flour and need (sp?) until you get the right consistency...

Bill.

Awwwww, the secrets out now.... /images/forum/icons/smile.gif I have been using a similar method for a long while Ian, it's a real killer method. Have you tried Luncheon Meat paste using the same method? as we are on the coarse angling board, it works wonders for those carp feeding just under the surface as well. hush, hush shhhhhhhhh

Ian, instead of Cork I use plastizote balls, that white high density foam we use for tying Flies called Boobies, I colour it and no need to use the hair rig then, goes on a hook, oooops cat out of the bag again /images/forum/icons/smile.gif

Cheers guys for all your help. Looks like next time i hit the green for the chub i'll be well prepared. Your tips have also prompted me into a few rig ideas myself (sound good in thery, i'll put them into practice on my next trip)
