have averaged four fish a session over the last month (except last week when the conditions finally looked good and i blanked).
almost all mid double scrappers.
this may sound stupid but it seems the commons have really woken up, getting more of them than mirrors now!
just keep a constant very light trickle of feed going in, fairly wide spread.
bait wise, maize, boilies, maggots, meat, pop ups, bread. could prob catch on a spud mate, they aint fussy.
as for the best swims , get there early and look for fish. they are showing now.

you do need to find them though as i saw only three other fish come out and there were about 20 lines in yesterday, i put the effort in to find them and bagged.

and gary is right, i have been using source all winter and is performing really well now. i wouldnt say anything but am now pulling off lake and onto burghfield now spring is here. god help me.

aimed at demon::

how are the fish showing at the moment?

what peg or area did you catch from??

demon

gary, i may have seen you , so many bailiffs come round i cant tell. i have been fishing all winter twice a week, midweek. usually the only mug down there fishing holes in ice etc. drive the green z3. young good looking chap http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif.lol

i always get down at very first light when the winds tend to be gentle and banks empty ( ie : before the crowds start banging in bivvy pegs and bank sticks ) and walk the lake looking for bubbles, fish crashing or cruising, fish in the margins etc took 8 fish from right under rod tips and seven from the back of a bar this week. sit back from the edge and remain deadly silent, it is amazing what happens under your feet with those deep clear margins. and remember the car park swims are the most popular !!!!.
chances are if you do find the fish you will proberly have 100 or so carp cruising around your bait so the best baiting tatic is little and often to create that competion element. this will result in some SCREAMING runs, although twitch hitting was working during those real cold nasty periods.
and be ready for some aching arms if you do get on them.

good luck

[censored] it , im off the lake now

i fished peg 18, cast to bar thirty yards ahead and one off the tree on the left. fished source, about 5 baits spread over each rod every 30 mins and a catty of marine halibut pellets worked for me(also had a lot on maize this winter). DONT use bags, like i say the aim is to get lots of fish moving around looking for baits. bit of foam on the hook as the bottom is a bit dirty.i fish esp shrink tubing to pin line and prevent cut offs from the muscles. you will notice this peg is prob the least fished area off lake, coincedence or caused by peg bashers !
i have taken fish from every peg on the lake though. had a thirty out from that outflow pipe in autumn.be carefull fishing this peg, some real nasty snags down there.
the bars off the island will produce when hot, outflow pipe great when hot.. if you go when real warm you can make out the fishes patrol route in no time.margins very good if quiet.
get there early, look for fish, bait little and often and try to stay away from the crowds ( not easy).

great fun http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

p.s. little hint : turn alarms to silent, watch bobbins and try and play the fish as quiet as possible. as soon as people see ya catch 10 leads will land in your swim from all angles!!.

Hi Darren,

Its steve, bloke with the silver BMW!
You sound like you have been having a few mate since i last saw you!
Had a few myself since we last met but unfortunatly im now working again full time in the city!.
Popped down a couple of sundays ago and had a mid twenty myself with a few smaller ones so its still fishing quite well.
Lake was pretty busy though so i think thats my winter runs water over for another year!.

Good luck on burghfield fella.....i would take the hairdryer, shampoo and conditioner out of the Z3 though...that would be a real treat for the pikeys!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No night fishing.....but if you can I highly recommend filling it in at the end of the day...slinging the rods into Burghfield for the night and then back on your chosen spot first thing in the morning...

Laugh broadly as you latch into one after the other with continued feeding....whilst the rest of the lake blank dismally!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

im new to this place in fact fishing,i was there on the match lake?week ago last tuesday, got there in th after noon an i pulled three large carp for me all mirror largest was about 8-10 ibs well chuffed, was a bit luck as i thought the end right near the car park was quite shallow and i was on a float,at the end i realised i was fishing about 4ft down although the day was quite warm for that week and all the fish were jumping out the top!!
went there again last sat when it was wind rain and all sorts all though there were quite alot of peps on the larger lake (blue pool)?
only caught 1 that day about 6ibs again fishing about 5ft of the top about 10yrds away from me,as im jut trying to get into the whole fishing thing i take it its better to feed of the bottom for the larger type?
any help would be appreciated, also im going to IVY HOUSE LAKES 2morrow anyone got any tips for this place?

cheers chaps. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
