Presently there is a very real threat that livebaiting is going to be banned in Scotland.

Whilst I don't live bait I do support the rights of others to do so and I belive that having this right removed is the start of a very slippery slope basically we have to ask what follows next Worms ? Maggots?.

Whilst some may feel the practise is outdated or barbaric there is in fact very little diiference between hooking a livebait and hooking any fish.

Whatever your views this plan represents yet another of the planks of angling being taken from under us.

Your Views are important please register them at the poll that can be found HERE

Remember it could be you next...

Just added my 'yes' vote.
Now it is time for all the rest of you to add your votes. The PAC have only recieved an abysmal 32 votes so far. Come on chaps, its time to do your bit to help angling, we need to stop this in its tracks, otherwise, before you know it, the anti's will build up too much momentum, and hit us hard.

If you value your right to fish, VOTE NOW. If you think it wont happen to us, that is exactly what the smokers in America thought when the anti smoking brigade tried to ban smoking in public places. IT IS NOW ILLEGAL TO SMOKE IN PUBLIC IN MANY STATES OF AMERICA.

DONT LET US BE THE NEXT PAST-TIME CONSIGNED TO HISTORY.

I've added my vote but I have to ask what this poll is going to prove - I would hope most anglers, even if they choose not to livebait, would vote to retain the right to livebait.

Call me cynical but all I can see this poll showing is 98% of people supporting livebaiting and a few being against.

I feel an online petition would be of more use and have greater influence when presented to SEERAD - something similar to the online petition Anglers Net did recently that was presented to the political parties before the last election.

Hmmmm, tough one this. I have previously posted stating that I believe livebaiting should be banned, but from within the sport, not because of any external pressure. Replies to that posted suggested, in no uncertain terms, that such a ban would undoubtably cause the progressive collapse of the sport. Now whilst I don't believe that to be true, I do strongly believe that the angling community needs to show solidarity at this time. In the face of an active anti campaign, particularly by PETA, the last thing we need is to highlight divisions on emotive subjects like livebaiting. Therefore my vote is in support of PAC.

Just one point though, isn't the livebait ban proposal in Scotland based on the concern of fish movement across waterways, and the subsequent introduction of non-indigenous species (with the associated health risks)? How many posts have we seen on this forum castigating the same practice, although usually carp rather than roach?

I think everyone should have the right to fish how they want to be honest. I persoanlly don't livebait for any fish but that is my choice only because I get more satisfaction catching predatory fish using flies and lures.
