Does anybody know of a lake called Ellis, i think its near Shepperton. I`ve walked around it (approx 85 acres) i was wondering if anybody fishes it or if you know whats in it. It has a sailing club on there if its any help. There are rumours i think of a couple of 40+ fish but i`m not sure.
If anybody knows how to get to the Mere (blackwater) could you post the directions i would love to see the place and have a look around, post it privatly if you want.

Thanks Dave.

I've known the lake for quite a few years as I am a member of the sailing club there. I have managed to get a permit for the fishing this season and have also been having a look round. I have heard of one definate 40 and another that should go 40 this year with a few 30's & lots of other fish in there.
I haven't really started fishing it - I did a couple of sessions but I wasn't happy with where I was fishing due to the large amount of weed in there. There are also supposed to be some big tench in there as well.
I plan to start in the spring when hopefully things might be a bit easier!
Good Luck

ellis is 100+ acres including the lagoon its run by civil services ,about 75+ carp in it up to 37-40 depending on time of year ,top rod each year has about 10-15 fish ,this year theres a change in rules about the boats which roughly means fishing in pairs ,hard lake alot blank but rewards are there

This is a sexy water..some beautiful English carp in...there is a chapter in 'Waiting for Waddle' about it...getting a bit busy nowadays, the carp anglers seem to have their own sailing club! As Ian mentioned there are some new rules this year regarding the use of boats i.e. you must have insurance and fish in pairs with mobile phones, basically.
Still worth a look, as when you find the fish they aren't hard to catch. I only ever done 15-20 nights and banked 19 fish, and only 3 under 20lb....purely down to location.
There is one definate 40 in there - confirmed last year at 42lb, but a lot of dodgy roumours floating about, so don't believe all you hear!
Tight lines.

...as well as the big tench, there are also huge eels and 10lb+ bream...and a Mk11 Escort at the bottom of the lagoon!
