I always thought it was best to leave it in the water at the edge as there will be a lot of natural food still on it, and as it breaks down the nutrients will be released.

There could also be spawn etc on it.

It's best to leave it in the margins out of the way. It becomes a danger on the bank being slippery...and STINKS!!
I never remove it as it contains lots of natural food etc.......keeps the water fowl away from your swim if you dump it in someone elses as they root through it for goodies!

i allways just pile it up at the front of the swim in the water
it's quite pheraputic sitting there looking out into the lake whilst sitting on a massive bed of weed.

I seem to remember Dr Paul Garner "secret lives of coarse fish" saying that tiny tench live in the weed until they are big enough to avoid predators....this could be a problem in leaving the weed on the bank aswell....
