View Full Version : Barbel/Feeder/Specimen Rods
About to invest in a new Barbel/feeder/Specimen rod, has anyone tried either the gaint or fox ones, or have you any other suggestions.
All have got good write ups.....Ian may be able to offer some advice on the Giant models. My recommendation would go to the Daiwa Powermesh rods.

Couldnt agree more i have had a pair of powermesh avons in 1.25 tc for a couple of years they cope with everything from perch to specimen barbel and carp etc.
Have a look at the 'Barbel Specials' at Specialist Tackle, Collier Row. They are excellent!

Rich.
I have a Barbel Ouse Giant rod and it is excellent, I haven't caught a Barbel on it but had an 11lb carp on it over the weekend.... it will handle any barbel and is also an excellent light carp rod too... very good finish and even comes with an isotope (I think thats what it's called) whipped onto the tip. It may be a bit on the heavy side for trotting all day.
The John Wilson avon/quiver rod is also excellent value for money.... a very good rod for lines up to 8lb and comes with 2 tips... comparing them I would take the giant every time though.

Check out the Shimano range of feeder rods. The Technium specimen rods are excellent too.
....Trefor West Pulse Barbel rods, made by Century...mines great.......thats confused you now!....So many rods out there to choose from & everyone will give you a different answer.
Had carp to 21.04 on mine too.
The good thing about this rod is that instead of having to carry round complete spare tips for different scenarios, the tip sections are 12" long & fit into your stalking bag in a float tube.

I would seriously think about going to ARPINO Rods near Heathrow, and get one made after trying out up to twenty blanks under expert eyes. Very impressed with the service, care taken to match my bad elbow action with the correct handle, weight and TC.
Some people I know swear by them for floater fishing too, Ian.
They look good even if you blank!!
