Help Help Help Please anyone
I have now visited the green on 20 ocassions normally on short, which probably doesn't help, sessions between 3-4hrs in the afternoons at a time moving between swims after about 20mins,i have tried all baits from meat to paste, maggots everything, I have tried in the main flow little side ares where the current slows down, under fallen trees, bushes everywhere and not a single fish to show for it, I mainly fish 10lb line with a running lead set up and different size hooks for whatever bait i'm using.as much as i enjoy watching the kingfishers, who i know are laughing at me,i need any little bits of help possible, i will be persavering and will be over there on 9th for 4-5 hrs.any help or tips are very gratefully accepted,

many thanks to any replies

If you wait until later on then you will get some replies from a couple of moderators as they fish there. Sorry I cant help but I havent been there before.

Hi Tony,

I take it your just not getting any bites at all, rather than getting bites and not banking them ?

Never having seen Fishers Green before I may not be much help, but have you tried using other baits such as pellet or cheese ? I can't see tactics being too different from the Kennet (where I fish).

I'd come down a bit on the line, though this may not make a huge difference. I use 6 - 8lb, except when fishing snaggy swims. This is then tied to a braided hooklength of about 10lb. The braid also has a much finer diameter. You could also try fishing a braid straight through - spiderwire comes highly recommended.

I think your doing it right fishing short sessions(that's all I ever do), but if work allows why not try swapping the hours you do from afternoon to mornings ? I have found that the first 3 or 4 hours or light are good, then again an hour before dark fishing a few hours into it... Mid afternoon seems to be a waste of time, with only the occasional fish turning up.

I'm sure you'll get more repies from people who fish the venue, but anything else I can help you with, just ask.

ATB,

Bill.

PS. failing that, get your brother to accompany you /images/forum/icons/smile.gif

My last couple of trips over the green have resulted in blanks..
I've had a few bites through on every trip, from swims i know (or should i say think) barbel are in. Normally i use a semi fixed lead (weight depending on flow).
Im starting to think that the Barbel are maybe becoming a bit 'finiky'. Has any one else experienced this recently?.
Should i be thinking about changing my end tackle, or sticking it out..!

Hi Tony,

Whatever you do don't panic, we all blank at the Green from time to time.
You seem to have got some good advice from other people but here's mine, for what it's worth!
Set-up: 6-8lb main line, all you really need, I use a semi fixed leger down to a leger stop or swivel, depending on wether I'm using a braided leader or not.
Hook size depends on your bait.
Bait: Most people reckon a general rule is maggot-feeder or worm in clear water, a smelly bait like cheese or luncheon meat in cloudy water.
Also take some cooked Hemp along (Barbel and Chub love it), a few handfuls in your swim with your main bait fished over the top. And you can tart that up with some casters, sweetcorn or finely chopped meat mixed in.
Location: Most of the good swims are fairly obvious, you can see where other anglers plonk themselves, usually next to overhanging trees or bushes, that's where they hide!
Time: As Billyo mentioned afternoons can be a bit quiet but early mornings are good and just as it gets dark probably the best time.

I fished there a couple of weeks back, tried three swims, ended up at the bend above the middle car park bridge, before I got my first bite. I used curry-flavoured meat fished over some hemp, it got me a 5lb Barbel!

Hope some of this is of use...keep trying you'll get one soon!
