View Full Version : Match lake bcac
Any1 entering the carp championships this year on the match lake. I was wondering whether to try them out this year but Im not sure if they are worth paying 125 squid for.
Personally I think carp matches are a complete waste of time and go against the whole reason why I fish. The way I see it, I fish for myself, and compete against the fish, and definitely do not want to compete against anyone else for any sort of recognition or money such as these competitions encompass. Matches do not to the most extent determine who is a better angler, and relies on getting drawn first, and being able to pick a swim where the fish are. A [censored word] hot angler who is drawn out last and has to pick a swim with no fish in front of him/her, will not catch regardless of how good they are!!!
Each to there own obviously, but I would never go there, and I prefer fishing to remain as a hobby/pastime, rather than a sport, which is competition with other anglers rather than the fish!
I am against all forms of match fishing, I remember it was only the sposored anglers who had access to unlimited bait and tackle that would win... Bloodworm & joker, 15m poles etc. The only type of match fishing I would say was fair though would be a single species match, as long as the rules are fair and no pre-baiting allowed, pike matches are fair because as far as I am concerned you don't need anything special to win a pike match except watercraft knowledge. Fishing to me is competition with myself not other people.

Match fishing is a good way of getting sponsered I like a good match now and then the Horseshoe fish-ins are even match's I won my Delkims by fishing a match and I have a small deal with Yateley angling center. So they are not all bad but when they become competative they are no fun and that type of match I disagree with.
True I suppose but I thought Id try it to judge for myself on what I think of them.
Ian on your question about are they good or bad for the sport, I think they are ok as long as they dont take over and have a match every week . If its only once a year like the Bcac then I think thats fine and will do the sport a bit of good and bring money into it.
Im not saying carp matches are amazing and Im not raving mad about it like Tim Paisly and co who seem to go to every carp match there is, but I might try it out just to see what theyre like.
And anyway if I do get a lucky draw and catch 1 or 2 fish I might even get a few prizes which would be nice!
One thing though Ian me and a few of my mates were a bit cheezed off with all the trees you chopped down and everything preparing the lake for the match, it made the lake more man made, will you be cutting any more trees down and moving things about this year?
Snags on the islands! They are one of the carps main sanctuarys and one of the best places to fish! Will you be taking them all out?
I'm looking at entering the Match lake round this year and I need a partner. Anyone wanna join me?
Now that D******h is no longer part, it truly is a BRITISH championship.
Anyone that's interested please mail me, thanks.
Keep it Historic.

On the note of tethered fish Ian, I heard a rumour that you had to take one of the fish you got in the netting on the Match away due to the fact that its mouth was mashed right up. Do you know if this is true and if so which one of the lumps was it?
I understand what you are saying Ian and thinka good idea, the last thing we want is tethered fish.
100 rigs is a hell of a lot! Next time you are going out in a boat, can I give you a hand, wouldnt mind a few extra leads!
Seriousely though if you do need an extraith any work anywhere in Yately I wouldnt mind helping out if its a weekend.
When are the snags coming out?
Will do, the only thing is it would have to be a Sunday, is that ok?
