hi guys
there's been nothing about horton on here for a while so i thought i would ask how are you syndicate members that use this foram are doing on horton so far this season
having a good year?
having a not so good year?
learning a lot as you go ?
just enjoying the crack?
i would be interested to here any stories of the season so far.
this could end up like "war and peace"but it would make good reading.

cheers

Hi Craig , well my season is going as expected so far. No fish to me as yet , but hey who cares ! First season on the lake so it's gonna take time. Hardest thing i found has been getting in a good peg , but it seems to be getting quieter after the begining rush. Fished the ski slope last weekend and had some form of pick up but struck in to thin air , but it's a start !
Did wednesday night in the plateaux , only a couple of fish showing , but i'd thought i'd have a go as i probally won't get in it again !
Anyway thats it so far , didn't you catch the wood carving the other week ?
All tips greatley recieved !

My first season is going much the same as Blankster.... but, I don't really expect to catch this first year anyway!
Just happy being there, getting to know the place and the people...and I can't get enough of it.... infact, I should be there in about 6 hrs..... hooray!
I've had a couple of funny pick-ups like blankster said.... been fishing dead slack lines, and eventually they seem to get quite tight....and had a few bleeps and bobbin lifts, and the other week it went right to the top and actually took a few clicks off the baitrunner, so I hit it, and nuffin!

Wonder if its tench in the margins or summin, picking up my line down to the backlead...
seems to happen more at night too.......

Rutter , pick up i had started as a dropback then tightened to the butt then dropped again. Spoke to Del about it , who said it could have been a bream ! The tip was twanging down a good un though so couldn't understand why i missed it !
This came from the margins , i was fishing over a bed of groundbait and particles and they were fizzing on it a good un.
I started getting a lot of single beeps the first couple of sessions , couldn't work it out . Suddenly realised that the alarms sounded everytime a jumbo took off ! I've now taken the alarms off vibration mode and it doesn't happen anymore .LOL

Last year around this time, i had similar experiences. I was fishing the Heart tail, had the bait out on the sandy patch and had a breamy type take which had to be hit and nothing. So i recast (this is about 3.00am). Around 06.00am i had a one toner on that very same rod, as i picked up the rod to strike the fish was still taking line and .......i struck into thin air????? This seems to happen a fair bit also on Horton, a number of anglers have experienced it. I was fishing 15yrds out and had 4 backleads on, way too much weight to get a screamer from a tinca or bream.
Maybe the Parrot? Pete Bond bagged her from there a month or so late, or maybe an eel? Who knows just one of those strange occurances.
Church Bay would be looking good for tonight!!!!!!!!

morning chaps,
bagged 2 fish in the last week. took a 20lb mirror out of the scooter then popped down there for a day session and found a group of mirrors in phils corner. it was a good hour before i could lower my bait over the reeds, but 2 hours later i took a 24lb common. happy happy happy

Im probably wrong but on a syndic.ate lake I fished last year several members had takes like you lads had been describing. 1 day I had 2 baits within about 7 meteres of each other 1st the right hand rod had a pick up so I struck and nout but then the left went struck and the rod bent round NE way wen I landed the fish it was 22 or summit it was draggin 3leads the 1 on my mainline a death rig it had picked up and my other rods lead it had swam through draggin the death rig lead and the lead it was draggin must have given me the pick up as it swam through.. It is a possibility that a fish is draggin a lead.. might not be but theres a chance???

Hi Guys, just the one fish so far in two sessions, although they were spawning last time I was there. Not the most inspiring sight after driving over 150miles. I hope to be back in a week or so's time.

Well done on the capture of the 'Woodcarving', it was a pleasure to photograph it. I hope they've come out ok.

See you soon guys and tight lines to you all.

Both Viv and I had one toners opening weekend. We both struck into nothing. I think the culprits are Pike in the margins. Last year on the Boat Pool and on Church Lake people were getting bitten off by them where the line enters the water.
Of course it could be those ******s getting away with it as per usual.
A few years ago I was fishing the Ski Slope, I had 1 bleep and the rod top knocked. When I reeled that rod in, rather than having a popup on the hair all I had was a flattened polly ball! - Bar stewards

I had a one toner at Shepperton yesterday, I struck and up popped a really pi***d off great crested grebe that had swam into my line sub-surface...... one day I'll catch a carp using buzzers... never had one using this method /images/forum/icons/laugh.gif
