I was thinking of a night session on one of my club lakes later this week, and then thought about Sandhurst. Only fished here once before, for Pike, so.......what would my chances be if I pitched up one night this week, Thursday, for a 12 hour session? I'm after Tench. I don't know much about the water at all, and searching the RMC site gives a lot of info about the place, before it became a DT water.

Or would I be better off with a proper reccy beforehand and fishing it later in the year?

Thanks for any advice,
Paul

Mate,
I fished friday night and saturday day time. My mate had a 16lb mirror and i had a 6lb female tench, which was a stunning fish in real good nick.

I used to fish the lake many many years ago (about 16 - 17yrs ago) for rudd and roach (used to contain massive rudd, and the little backwater, or the 'secret lake' we used to call it).
One day we were cycling back round the lake to go home and we saw a shoal of big tench (all over 4lb) in the margins of what is now the no fishing bank. We tried for them to no avail. But if they are still about then they must be close, if not over double figures (anyone know????)

sandhurst has LOADS of tench - probably scraping double figures at certain times of the year - but with a very good chance of a 7 or even an 8.....beds of pellet will do the trick - any pellet at all seems to attract both the tench and the bream...and the bream run well into doubles if they are of any interest. A number of the bailiffs have had over 10 tench in a night.....and that's when we've not been targetting them specifically...!

Probably worth checking with YAC or the office when Sandy is being shut for the Stoney do this weekend - I'd imagine it's first thing Friday morning but I'd check first in case the plan is to shut it Thursday.
