View Full Version : ELSTOW 2
Hi everyone, just a quick note.
I have joined Elstow 2 this year and i was wondering if any of you guys have fished the venue before.Any help would be great.
Cheers......MAXIMUS
I don't know if the problem is still around but make sure you don't leave anything in your car when you are fishing, locking wheel nuts etc.

I had a good look around it last year with a view to fishing it, but as you'll know by now, it's not exactely picturesque, and you'll need your absailing gear for 2 of the banks !
Having said that I did see some fish milling around near the entrance to the bay, but there aint many swims I'd want to be bivvied up on when the winds a blow.
Anyway I decided against it, but there was only one angler fishing at the time so maybe not much pressure.
It did'nt look very safe either and I know they used to have lots of problems down there but I don't know now.
Good look in your quest though, there are a few cracking big fish in there.
Neil
Hello MAXIMUS the ST Neots gladiator, don't know much about Elstow but hope you do ok.
P.S don't forget your sword and sheild for the gypos.
IAN
Nice one craig, look forward to meeting all you guys on the bank this year.My friend and i are going to be starting on there 1st of feb stop in for a brew and a smoke!!
Wotcha IAN,How's it going mate(finished work yet).
Need some help with the gypos mate, maybe you could join Elstow this spring and give me a hand on there!!
Sorry mate but as you know im going back to Cambridge in the spring if I ever get this bloody thing out of Bedford. But if Yateley doesn't happen who knows!!!
Would that happen to be the specticle wearing sports car driving Bar Hill bagger Mr Andy?
yes that's andy.
He's found this site atlast.
the fish do follow the wind especially when its blowing into the bays but by the sounds of things theres goeing to be a lot more pressure on it than last year but im sure it wont last especially when the blanks start mounting up just keep plugging a way
Never really fished pit2 but I have fished pit1 & the fish in there move all over the shop so it pays to be mobile.
I've walked round pit2 loads and the fish aint usually that hard to find as all the Elstow carp show quite a lot.
It's not unusual to move 4 or 5 times in a day to stay on them but results can come quite quick if you do.
Take a marker float cast out and then make a cup of tea while your waiting for it to hit bottom cos yes it really is that deep mate!!
Bacon
If you think thats deep, have a look at Stewartby, its 90ft of the bricks and thats in the edge, only a couple of miles from Elstow, but on another planet in terms of hardness.
I fished 1 and 2 in the past, 3 or 4 seasons ago I had the pleasure to witness a top angler on 2, he caught a third of the fish in there in a few nights, including Lisa at 37 an 4 oz.
yes your right it is a nightmare.swims underwater,huge depths,very open,very snaggy,unfinnished paths?busted wheelbarrows??
welcome to hell

HI,
maximus and chippy, how the devil are you too .
jim shelley
keeping it real,"E.C.H.O.".
Hi jim, we are not bad mate. how are you? You, Clubber and the gang catching mate.
Well said oracle, i've never understood why Linear have never put any more fish in there. They could move some of the 20lb fish from Elstow 1(with the correct legal paperwork!) maybe about 30, and they would just pile on the weight. What a fishery it would be then.
Be happy with what you've got MAXIMUS any more fish and it would be too easy and you would get bored and head for a proper water like the Fen.
Ha Ha, only joking mukka!!
Hopefully if i can catch some of those crafty Elstow carp this season i'll be joining you on Fen mate. (can i still have a ticket Jim?)Only time will tell, but i'm not moving off Elstow untill i manage to catch something. Over the weeks i've actually grown to love the place, drug needls and all!!
Love the place, bloody hell if I ever fish it I will be on there for as much time as pos in the shortest space of time and get the [censored] out of Dodge, hopefully with the Twin.
As for the needles well you can always take em home to use as pipets, result!!
Seriously though good luck,
IAN.
Is Stewartby the one with the Yachts at one end and islands (3?) at the other run by Ampthill A.S.?
No that one is Brogborough, only 210 acres and depths to 50 ft, but a mindbender, biggest known fish,Big red, Martin Bowler caught it at a low weight last year,35and half lbs, there are bigger fish in there ,but they elude capture, mind you rumours are rife of a 40+ coming out,
Stewartby is 270 acres with depths to 110 ft, it is where they hold the power boat grand prix, some times you get the odd sea plane landing on it, oh yes there is a yacht club as well, oh yeah I nearly forgot , an a few big carp .
Also within a couple of miles is Kempston Hardwick ,aka Chimneys , not as big or deep as the other two,but it did produce a 38 last year, and bigger fish have been seen,
If you are not adverse to a bit of poaching, you have Coronation pits,1,2,3 and 4 across the road, 3 is an inland sea, lots of unknown big fish.

Goin back to Elstow I have only looked round it a couple of times but I neva saw as much [censored] as evry1 says Yeah there were tyres polystyrene blocks but I never saw any needles ect mayB I went on a good day how bad is it really, Do you have many problems with pikeys and the like, Im am considering it for the nxt couple of seasons..
Nic.B Keepin It British
Dont think theres been any trouble with our travelling friends for years, cant be sure but Ive not heard of any since Mark and Andy have been there.
Think the problem came from the site up near Chimney corner but the site has residents on it now not the hear today gone tommorow kind any more.
Over all though I think the place is alright and may give it a go next year as well. If youve been around the place you will have seen the banks, most people hate em but I quite like the thought of high banks cos at least you wont have to climb any trees to have a butchers in the margins and the walks arent that long but maybe a bit uncomfortable but im sure you would get used to it the same as anywhere else.
Give it a go, that Twin is worth all the effort im sure youll agree..
Ian
Believe me mate when i say we have found syringes and needles in the car park, i know it's not the anglers because in Jan when we started fishing it there was no one on it.The situation has improved now probably due to the fact that more people are fishing it and midweek to, so hopefully the local weirdo's will give the place a miss.
The weird thing is i still love the place and look forward to fishing it everyweek.
See ya down there!!
