stick to the bars and s*d the particles, they dont want much to eat, when are you off to the pads ?
my life style determines my death style !
Cashy and Peggy blanked in fine style. We could say that we had work to do - hence didn't put much effort in! (Cough, cough!)
DON'T stick to the bars, they ain't there! The fish are holding up IN the pads and IN the reeds, easy to find, not easy to present a bait safely to where they are.
The weather needs to change to bring them out of the shelter!
And yes it is still fishing slow.

Oh nearly forgot, I did catch my customary bream - again! Ray told me theres only 2 in there - ive had 'em both now - bloody good angling if you ask me! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Some mates of mine just got back from a four nighter. One had five including two 27's, all had a few bites each.
Hello Phil
Me and my father caught two each (eventually), we where there for 2 days, nothing the first day. The second day we had 2 each. two 24's, 22, and one around 19 we didnt weigh. All taken from the pads, I did enjoy myself but I dont think the price justies the fishing. Only 100 fish for the size of the lake, its a difficult water and I feel sorry for inexperiended anglers who go there thinking they will catch a bag full. Its not that type of water I know, but add a few more fish and it will be a quality water. We all go fishing for fish, runs, we love getting runs, if I catch a 14 pounder in between 20s at the pads then i dont mind, but that wasnt the case, it was sit and wait or stalk, and the fish seemed to be holed up, all concentrated in one area, under the pads. Ive never seen a lake like it, no activity, no fish rising, no fish topping, no head n shouldering...nothing. I could of paid £3.50 on a local day ticket and caught 2 20's! Personaly I believe the lake needs more carp, which means more bites. And for a £100 a day, there was a lot of people walking round the lake, asking questions, stopping in our swims. Now i dont mind chatting to anglers, but when you expect solitude to concentrate on fishing for two days, you dont expect the "Have you got anything yet mate" angler to approach you! A little disapointing, nice lake, needs more fish, lovely area, would of preffered the solitude for £100, hey fellas if you dont agree tell me, id like to hear your opinions.
Darren
100 carp in the a lake the size of the pads lake is more than enough. It allows people to be in with a chance of a fish or two, and if they get it right more, along with a few 20's and the chance of a 30.
If you wante asier fishing go to the blue pool, where you should get plenty of bites and fish.
Your having a laugh!!!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif....how many fish do you need in a lake!!!!!!!
THe Guv is right ....though to my mind 5 goodens was enough http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Ever heard of Biomass Piker?????? http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Does nobody else carp fish near cardiff Mate? How can the odd person walking around asking if you caught hurt? Or would you prefer a wire fence with barbwire sorrounding the lake.
2, 20's and a double in 2 nights...... what on earth is wrong with that? Now if like you suggest it had more smaller fish in, then that could well have been 4, 12lbers and 1 20? then you'd have moaned??
Have to agree on the point there, the last time i caught a twenty it took me four days, admitedly this was on the thames but still, i think four fish in the current climate is good going...100 fish most of them close to twenty or over is plenty....there was an article in total carp where Jim foster caught quite a few out of there so i'm sure multiple catches can be done.
Must say i thought the Pads lake was incredible. Only fished it once, and would love to again one day.
For anyone looking for their first 20, you stand a very good chance. Whats more it'll be a Yateley 20, which i think counts for quite a lot.
Its a very pretty little lake. I had a few people stop and talk to me when i was there, but they were all very nice.
There was one strange chap i met and looking back i'm sure it was Lewis (at the time i didn't know who it was). Sadly i do now http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The very fact that it was Yateley inspired me no end......i was fishing a little bit of carp fishing folklore.
Sounds a lovely lake,wouldn,t ive minded having ago 7 or 8 years ago tho!!!!!! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Fished the lake twice now, first time (Feb) had my first thirty http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif, second time (May) I blanked.. Am I put off by the second trip?, not on ya nelly matey http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif.. love everything about the place and will be back for more.
Piker,
Blimey you must be the first one to be disappointed with the Pads!
Its a cracking lake, steeped in history, revamped so that anyone can book it to fish. Important word i used then in reply to your post: to FISH!
Thtas what its all about, the Pads (like any lake) has its hard days and then seems to be easy every now and then. Don't you feel a bit rewarded because the fish you caught were worked for? If not your in the wrong game my friend.
100 fish in 3 acres, thats close to over stocked!
What if you went to St. Johns and blanked - it happens, and there 1100 odd fish in under 20 acres in there!!!
Sad when it gets like this, we'll have to call it catching now and not fishing!
Cash
i have to agree cash! the first time i went to the pads i caught 6 20's and 2 doubles and second time i blanked a good'un! all the fish were holed up in the pads and sittin just below the surface but the balsnks just fired me up to catch more next time! for me its not really about the catching is about where it is and the atmosphere it holds.
i was fishing in waiting mans and at one point was drinking tea with terry hearn, steve pagulatus and john clarridge and to be honest i was tad star struck! where else is that gonna happen that experience it self was worth my 100 quid!
i dont really know what thiss chap was expecting for his money? a tank full of twentys and a sane net perhaps? http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've booked the Pads for a couple of days October 2004.
After reading comments on here I thought why not. Obviously £100 isn't cheap if you are fishing on your own but I've collared a couple of mates so it works out at £1 an hour for the 48 hours. The same price as most day ticket waters now.
I will be hoping to catch a 20. You need to be realistic in what you expect. I know fishing the Pads if I get a run its 'likely' to be a 20. But the other thing is it gives me a nd a couple of mates time to have social, and we can fish without worrying about people casting over us.
I think people should acknowledge what RMC have done, they could of just made it another day ticket lake filled it with high singles low doubles and said give us £15 a day and fill your boots.

Fished the pads in mid April this year with 4 mates, between us over 3 days we hooked 21 carp 5 were lost, 3 were doubles, 18lb the smallest and 13 20's to 27lb
HAPPY DAYS!!!
Cant fault the place it's just nice to fish on the complex with so much history. http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Thanks for the input, everyone keeps talking about history. I may well be naive but can someone tell me the "history" of pads. I fished it and as I said in my original message i enjoyed the fishing and had a lovely time, I caught some nice fish, and apart from someones kids having a hundred metre sprint relay around the pads lake for half an hour or so, it was very peacefull. Maybe I havent read enough about the area, but the history has escaped me, can someone please tell me the "history" of pads so I can enjoy it so much more next time. Although I dont fish for history I fish for fish, no sarcasm intended.
Cheers
briefly: the pads used to house a number of original Yateley fish, like the car park still does, with many having moved from the match lake during the seventies/eighties. including a much sought after 40 Jumbo (the pad lake forty). See Yateley Yahoo Video. There are none left in the Pads now, drained and fish left moved, and are probably all dead now, some were moved to the north but are thought to have all died, Jumbo definately. Photos of some of these fish can be seen on the historic gallery of the site linked in my profile.
for more detailed info on the movements see Chris Balls excellent article on this site.
And as he is being so modest, may I suggest you pay Flyns site a visit (link is in his profile) wherein you will find much info on Yateley! http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
