Has Sandhurst been treated yet to reduce the weed http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Treating lakes for weed.....whatever next!!!!!

If they want barren/weed free ponds send em to a carp puddle.......

Sandhurst is a gravel pit - you know, bars, gullies, weed, silt, all plays a part in making the fishing interesting and challenging compared with your average noddy puddle....

Dont do it!!!! The weed will be dropping soon - its august after all....

have to say lewis - i completely agree with you - sandhurst will not be the same without the weed and while i can understand the commercial considerations (ie some punters get scared off by the weed) - it's one thing I kinda hope RMC never get round to - the weed makes it interesting and if you think about what you are doing you will catch. A lot of the day ticket anglers we get on the lake appreciate the challenge the weed poses and I'd much rather see us get the reeds and pads that were mentioned at one point last year so we can improve the quality of the margin features - reeds all down the no fishing bank would be nice....you could even put a few pads on the plateau...... http://www.rmcangling.co.uk/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We don't seem to be getting too many people (with obviously the odd exception) being stupid and trying to fish at 100 yards with 99 yards of solid weed between them and their spot - most seem to understand that you're just going to lose fish in that situation - and we don't seem to suffer any fish tethered in the weed so I don't see fish safety as an issue in this particular case.

anyway the weed isn't half as bad as last year - there's only a couple of swims this year where you won't find clear patches...... and will the fish keep packing on the weight (at least 3lb a year at the moment) with the weed gone ???

With the weed gone they will put on even more weight mate. But that is only short term gain and the fish can really decimate the invert life for the future.

that's interesting - so they would probably put on extra weight for a couple of years because the food is easier to find then grind to a halt (if there isn't a stack load of quality bait going in) as the supply of natural food runs out (having nowhere to hide as it were to regenerate itself) ???

That's what happened on a lake I fished, The fish were steadily growing year after year. The weed was killed off and they all pilled on the weight. Some put over 6lb in a year. Year after they slowed down, were caught loads and ended up a bit tatty looking. Weed came back even worse 2 years later.

The fishing was bloody easy the 2nd year though
