For me there is a list of four.
1-Catfish from RMC waters
2-Big Eels
3-River Carp(Fishers Green Relief)
4-Barble
These of couse have to be caught on suitable tackle per species.
What do others think?

Hi Bob,
We are going to have to change your name to either poacher(this question poached from another site) or Radar for the spend you pick up information.
Hardest fighting fish, yes river carp do scrap some.As for barble I've never caught one or a barbel for that matter either. When the tempretures rise we will have meet up for a day at Fishers green Bob.

There are only two main species that i try to target in the season. Carp all season long and Barbel in the winter.
For me if i had to choose it would be barbel (pound for pound).
Iv'e only had one,(just before xmas) but did it go some.

Size for size I would say Dace, but for a great scrap it has to be a river carp

Ian,
What I should have said was any fish from Woburn Stock, as they are as near British as any of our carp stocks.
Try 11/2lbtc Barbel rods&8lb line for big Eels if you fancy a real fight.
See you at the Pit some time

I think Sturgeon fight harder than catfish, purely an opinion based on the fish i have caught.

I`ve caught sturgeon to 18lb`s in this country lol , on the fight the smaller ones completely clear the water and the 18lb I caught took about 20 mins to get in, and I was really giving it some with a 3lb test curve rod.The fight is absolutely awesome. I`ve had catfish upto 26lb and they go some as well. This year I had a 221/2 lb mirror out of the Thames after the 1st period of heavy rain, that shot off about 100 yards downstream and I had to give that soo much stick because of boat traffic! But that was one to remember as well!
