View Full Version : Betaine hydrochloride
Has anyone got any experience concerning the use of betaine in their baits (not just boilies but as a general additive to ground bait, pellets and pastes etc). For those who don't know, its an amino acid derivative that supposedly induces a feeding response in aquatic animals.
Can anyone testisfy that this stuff works based on thier results ?
Some people seem to swear by it. Jack has even started snorting it !

I have used betaine in groundbaits and for soaking my trout pellets. All i do is dissolve some betaine in some water(dosage is the same as say a pound of boillie mix e.g 2 to 3 grams per 160z of basemix)then i just add this solution to the groundbait or pour it over the pellets. This method has caught me alot of fish, but wether this is because of the betaine is debatable. The only thing i can say is it has not harmed my catch rate.
One additive that i find MEGA in groundbaits or in scalded pellets etc is mainline c.s.l This is one additive that 100% improves catch rates. Also it is very difficult to overload as it is a "liquid food" type additive rather than a chemical, say like a flavour.
Hope this helps...MAXIMUS

Doc if I make my boilies it's one of the first things to go in.Can't say for certain about the results but I feel confident using it.Ian comment is interesting.
That's good enough for me. It's about to be added to my "special" catfish bait. I am bracing myself to be amazed !
There's an article concerning Betaine in the latest 'Big Carp' magazine that provokes a bit of thought.....

I add it, when I make my own boilies, and when I make dips I also add some when preparing particles.
I usually add a bit more than the recommended levels.
